I have been born and brought up in a family which can represent an entire middle- class community and as a part of that family, I can proudly say we always want to get the best things without creating holes in our pockets. For that, we always see the pros and cons of everything, compare it with every option available and then decide. When my father decided to build our home after saving money for 20 years, he wanted to get it built in his budget without compromising on quality. This is why he chose UltraTech Cement and maybe this is the only common thing between me and my grandparent’s house.
When I wanted to gift a blazer to my grandfather on his retirement day, but could not get any blazer of my choice in an affordable range, my father asked me to check for Peter England. I was amazed to see the variety and quality of peter England and finally, I got what I was looking for. Later I also noticed that my father has most of his shirts from Peter England. I never understood the importance of life insurance, but always noticed that one file of Birla Sun Life Insurance in my father’s drawer. My father got us an Idea SIM to talk to my grandmother living in a remote place with only connectivity from Idea towers.
Like any other father, my father also wanted to provide us healthy food, a comfortable life, a permanent home and, a secured future. I never realized there is one link common in all of these apart from my father and that is Aditya Birla Group.
How you overcame challenges to achieve your ambitions in life so far?
Hard work and determination are key characteristics of my personality. These have helped me overcome many challenges in my life.
When I switched from a Hindi Medium to English Medium school in class 7th, my world went upside down. I was afraid that I would fail in my exams as everything was alien to me right from the classroom to students. But I worked really hard, burnt midnight oil and ended up coming in the top 3 that year.
From that year onwards I always topped class till class 12th. The real blow came in class 12th when I could not crack IIT JEE. It was my first academic failure, and I had to clue about the next steps. But I did not give up, learned from my previous mistakes, gave other exams and finally got admission in reputed state college.
In my college life, I was doing very well until placement time. 15 days before the placements, I got Jaundice. This is the period when everyone was preparing for the companies and I was on complete bed rest. I am not a quitter and managed to study for one hour each day for those 15 days and cracked one of the best companies.
All these times, I was never in self-doubt. But there came a time after working for 6 months in the previous company that I wanted to quit everything. I could not handle enormous pressure neither did I find work environment very supportive. However, I did stick to my job, learned things by investing extra time, worked on my efficiency and finally became the top performer of the team and later team lead too.
