Coming from the North East, the journey to Harihar was a long one for me. It gave me a lot of time to think about how things were going to be here and whether I would be able to manage on my own. I was quite nervous, to be honest, and came to the campus with a lot of anticipation. It has been five months since then and I can comfortably say that I have found my second home.
If you look back into the annals of time, trace a path all the way to the present and dare to peek into the future as well, you’d be surprised to find that no article of clothing has been, is or will be more ubiquitous than the humble shoe. Ever since prehistoric times, Man has always felt the need to protect his feet from everything that Mother Nature could throw at him and ancient cultures, ranging from the Native Americans to the Egyptians and all the way to Ancient China, developed their own forms of primitive footwear. While shoemaking as a trade only picked up speed during the Industrial Revolution, the global footwear market today is pegged at a size of around $190 – 200 billion, clocking a sub – 5% annual growth. While the luxury segment is still a minuscule portion of the entire pie, it is growing in double – digits, with some brands even growing at over 30% - 70% annually, albeit on a small base. Speaking of the luxury footwear industry, names like Jimmy Choo, Louis Vuitton, Christian Louboutin, Gucci, Prada, Steve Madden, Yves Saint Laurent, Manolo Blahnik and Brian Atwood are now the soles that legends are made of and every shoe cabinet desires.

As far as the scenario in India goes, the sector enjoys intense focus from the Public Sector and the Private Sector alike, for initiating policies and projects that would ensure time-bound creation of world class infrastructure in the country.

For any B-School, diversity in the classrooms is an asset as students from different backgrounds think in different ways. The classroom experience is enhanced as students come up with a wide variety of solutions that students of a single culture would never have considered. In the era of globalization, it is important for the students to understand that to be successful in the international environment, they need to be successful in the multicultural environment in their own country first.
In MBA while juggling between so many other things the desire to play mostly remains subdued. But when it comes to football matches between college faculty, alumni and students, then all students even sacrifice Sunday morning’s sleep to enjoy it. A week before RUSH-IIM Ranchi’s first Sports and Cultural Fest, the students have sent waves of fun and excitement with this ‘teaser match’. It was time for the alumni and faculty to shake off the dust and accept the challenge posed by the students. The Alumni and International Relations Committee in collaboration with Sports Committee of IIM Ranchi organized this event.
