Have you ever wondered as to why many CAT aspirants seem to fail to score well in the exam even after spending a good amount of their time mugging up the formulas and practising? Mostly it’s because many students attempt the mocks as well as the real CAT itself without a proper plan.
Reading Comprehension, or the RC parts in the Verbal Ability section is a dreaded lot. On one hand RC passages are unpredictable, and on the other, they hold a lot of weightage in the paper, specially since 2015. One cannot simply skip these questions, and they hold the key to make or break your score in the verbal section. So love them or hate them, they are around, and we have to look for ways to ace them.
Practice tests, or mocks, are on the must-do list of every serious CAT aspirant and would feature on every topper’s tips. So, we have so far come to understand that taking mock tests is of the utmost importance. To summarise,
CAT 2018 is just a week away. It's time to take the preparations a notch higher. Which also means, you need to think about what you need to do after CAT. CAT is just a means to an end and not an end in itself. The end goal is your career. And getting into the b-school that can help you build the career of your dreams.
Scoring 99+ in VA is different from scoring 99+ in the other two sections, which is why we see a lot of people struggle in VA despite scoring well in the other sections. It is a section where even coaching classes haven’t found a clear-cut formula for. A major part of scoring well in VA is getting a good command over the language itself, which takes time. But that in itself isn’t enough; when I took the first few mocks I was surprised to see I was struggling in the VA section because, being an avid reader, that was one section I wasn’t worried about. With time I realized the trickiness of this section because understanding the context of the question is very important. It is very easy to misinterpret the question and is also probably why people get a lot of negatives in VA because people actually think their answer is right, which is unlike QA or DILR where you definitely know when you’re wrong.
You’ve spent months, even years preparing for this day. All the midnight oil you have burned and all the days you decided not to hang out with friends comes down to these few hours and how you perform on D-Day. After the hard work you’ve put in and the mocks you’ve attended, you must have certainly developed a strategy for the exam that works for you. However, there’s more to excelling in CAT than just doing the exam well! Here’s a short checklist of items you mustn’t leave home without in order to ensure your exam goes swimmingly smooth:
Working in an IT firm, I had decided to pursue MBA after 2 years of work experience and had started my preparation for MBA entrance exam CAT (Common Admission Test). My initial 6 months of training in the company Cognizant Technology Solutions (CTS) took place in Pune, that is when I joined the coaching institute T.I.M.E for guiding me through the preparation of entrance exams for MBA and also support me with the study material. I had opted for the weekend batch. In the IT sector, there is no fixed time for leaving the office, and work pressure vary daily, thereby coming up with coaching centres’ time is not possible on weekdays.
