With that out of the way, let’s begin with the annual pre-CAT sermon.

It was the summer of 2015; I was finally a graduate. To top that off, I had job offers from 3 IT giants of the world. Life seemed an easy ride back then. Days were spent sleeping and nights on 'Gametracker'. But one evening changed it all. The 'Eat Sleep Game Repeat' mode transformed to 'Dream Study Achieve' mode. That one question of my mother "Why so satisfied already" rattled me up and changed my life forever. Her words got so deeply entrenched in me that I believe they will echo in my ears till I kick the bucket. I decided to make it big and after thorough self-introspection, set off for one of the most challenging hunts ever-Hunting the CAT.
In our special series, we endeavour to bring together experiences of students belonging to diverse academic backgrounds and how they made it to the top schools of the country, especially when the MBA scenario is highly dominated by engineers. This series is an attempt not only towards highlighting success stories but also to cement the fact that there are many roads to clinch a seat at the premier schools of the country.
Shyam Ramakrishnan is currently pursuing PGDM from IIM Shillong and is a Mechanical Engineer from Mumbai University. And he is passionate about literature and sports.

Mahakpreet Singh Bhatia, batch of 2016 IIM Shillong. After graduating from NIT Jamshedpur as a civil engineer in 2014, I joined Mu Sigma Inc. as a decision scientist. Post that, I joined the PGDM programme of IIM Shillong with an objective of excelling in my career path and hope to work for a reputable firm as a consultant. I am passionate about cricket and a die-hard fan of the Indian Cricket Team.
