Satyajit Mohanty will be joining IIM Calcutta in its 59th MBA Batch, Class of 2024. He is a 2020 batch of Electrical Engineering graduates from Odisha University of Technology and Research. He has over 18 months of work experience at Deloitte Consulting in a client-facing role. He scored a stellar 99.73%ile in CAT 2021. He scored 93%, 86%, and 8.49 CGPA in 10th/12th/Graduation respectively. Being a General Engineer Male candidate with not-so-top-notch academic scores, IIM Calcutta was the only IIM from BLACKI that extended him an interview call. In this interview, he shares his CAT preparation strategy, and his advice to future CAT aspirants!

Sejal Sahni is a student of the PGP 2021-23 batch at IIM Ahmedabad. Brought up in Bangalore, she pursued the Integrated Program in Management at IIM Indore, where she graduated with a B.A.(Foundations of Management) degree. She attempted CAT 2020 during her final year of graduation, and scored a stellar 99.67%ile, with a 99.97%ile in the VARC section. She also secured 99.13%ile in the XAT examination. Unlike many students in college, I was clear with my goals and what I wanted to do with my career. But even then, how to achieve that particular dream was kind of ambiguous since there were multiple options in front of me - either going abroad or staying in India. The only thing that I had figured out towards the end of my four-year bachelor’s degree was to pursue my career in the management sector rather than in the engineering sector. When I gave my first CAT exam, I hardly knew anything about it, ranging from the duration of the exam to the actual pattern of the exam. I never intended to pursue my post-graduation immediately. I was held up with a lot of work at my college, both academics, and extra-curricular. So, it was like a mock test for me, and once the results got out, there was no element of surprise. I scored significantly less in the range of 70% tile, but the overall exam pattern, especially DILR and Quants, was very much comfortable for me, and I was confident that I could do better if I try again.
