Is the Value of a Woman’s MBA lesser?

Is the Value of a Woman’s MBA lesser?

Most of us would agree that women, on an average earn as much, or even slightly higher salaries right out of a B-school in India. These statistics are consistent with studies done by researchers in the U.S. including the one that is referenced to, by Stephen J. Dubner and Steven D. Levitt, in their book “Superfreakonomics”. However, their study states that 16 years after doing an MBA, women’s salaries averaged up to 40% lower as compared to their male counterparts.

Dhabas - The Lifelines Of IIFT

Dhabas - The Lifelines Of IIFT

Bablu, Kohli and Laxman are familiar names for any IIFTian. They are a part of the army of dhabas that surround the campus. These dhabas are the lifeline of the college. These are the go-to places in the breaks for a chai or bournvita. They provide the most affordable food for students according to their customized needs. When you are away from home this is what keeps you going. I am sure each IIFTian will credit a part of their degree to these dhabas which provide you the parathas, maggis, chais and Tzingas at all times and keep you going.

“You’re my HR friend. Get me a Job”

“You’re my HR friend. Get me a Job”

The majority of the workforce considers the HR department responsible for everything wrong with their organization. An HR manager is Satan spawn, the Devil incarnate, the rotten face of unadulterated, pure evil. Your inflexible work schedule is the HR’s fault. You have too few days off because your HR hates you. Your performance appraisal got screwed because the HR didn’t like your tie. Your promotion will be stalled till the next cycle because the stingy HR isn’t ready to pay you according to the hard hours and backbreaking labour you put in. The poor workers in the factories are being oppressed because the HR doesn’t care about their welfare (this brings to mind the Manesar incident when the Maruti HR was burned alive. He was supposedly on the workers’ side too). Given all this, it’s more than a little ironic that the majority of this piece was written on Labour Day.

Hearsay vs Experience: My MBA Journey So Far

When I started on my quest to obtain an MBA degree for myself, I spoke with a lot of alumni about what exactly an MBA exam entails, how much of work does one need to do in order to get through one of those ‘oh-so-good-to–be-true colleges’ and also, what is your takeaway from this course, i.e. what is this god-level stuff that the stern-looking profs teach in the under-furnished looking buildings that turns these somewhat above average students (and a few exceptionally bright students like me and you :p) into money churning machines.
