I have always been a shy person-mixing with people never came easily to me. It didn’t particularly bother me, however, since I wasn’t planning on becoming the next Ms. Congeniality at the Miss World contest. I had as normal a social life my other peers and fared well at my workplace since I always delivered on my assignments. In a nutshell, I was perfectly satisfied with this aspect of my personality and saw no reason to change. All of this came crashing down when I joined an MBA program in one of the top global B Schools, because, suddenly a single word became my nemesis-“networking”.
Some of the finest professors and academicians in the world use films to communicate concepts that just stick with you for life.
IIM Calcutta students have approached former Railway minister Dinesh Trivedi to seek guidance on popularising Politics and Public Policy as a career option for MBA students. Trivedi interacted with the Public Policy & Politics (PPP) SIG of IIM Calcutta and is set to visit the B-School on 3rd October 2013 to address the current batches of IIM Calcutta on “Country before Self”.
India’s best and the brightest certainly see the glamour attached to consulting. This is perhaps why it is by far one of the most aspired career domains in a b-school. The big bucks, exposure of working across various verticals and the push that it gives to one’s career also contribute to its attractiveness. Each year a select few from the top IIMs are shortlisted by consulting Goliaths. After a month of burning the midnight oil cracking cases, a select few get the offer they cannot refuse.
