MBA, or Masters of Business Administration, is a very heavy word in today’s world. If you hear about someone who has an MBA, your brain automatically pictures heaps of money, Friday nights at pubs, 3-piece suits and tuxedos, and all other fancy things that you can think of. Everyone has their own reasons for doing an MBA, which can ultimately be traced back to one single point.
It is that time of the year when convocation pictures start flooding social media especially of b-schools in India and it reminds me of my graduation from IIM Lucknow. It also brings with it a train of thoughts - all that I achieved during those two years and what more I could have achieved.
In his inimitable, pugnacious style, maverick billionaire Elon Musk recently took down the Facebook pages of both SpaceX and Tesla, seemingly in response to an arbitrary tweet that challenged him to ‘be the man’. Aside from the fact that teams and/or individuals looking after these pages were left red-faced, this incident has also sparked a lively debate about whether brands should also hitch their wagons to the #DeleteFacebook movement.
Yes, my friends, it is that time of the year when the final converts of a B-school are being announced. All the butterflies in the stomach justify the efforts that you have put in during the last year.
“What’s the hurry to go to Mumbai? It’s hardly been 2 weeks since you stayed at home after your B. Tech got over. Can’t you stay for a few more days?”
One of the things that hold us back is the fear we have internalized over the years. May it be fear of rejection, fear of public speaking or the fear of fear itself. The only thing that holds us back is that very fear that we need to overcome.
