My last evaluative moral lesson was when I was 13 and had to write an incident that described the importance of values. I had chosen the Eklavya incident and earned a well deserved A+ for it. I was a kid back then and surely understood why the subject was taught to us in the first place.
The other day, a couple of friends and I were watching the fourth day of the first test match wherein India was pitted against South Africa in the recent India tour of South Africa. With just some 200 odd runs required in the finals innings, that too with a couple of days to play, the match seemed to be pretty much in favour of the Indian team. This could have been one of those odd times when India could have finally won a test match in a foreign pitch, but like every time the wickets tumbled down one after the other in no time and then, the Indian team didn’t even get to see the first session of the penultimate day, delivering another loss from a foreign pitch. This got me and my friends discussing how the Indian team always does this.
Your CAT did not go as expected! You toiled for 10 months, gave up your social life, did not watch Justice League, nor the Thor movie. You gave up on your regular curriculum of college, you screwed up your relationships, you gave up on spending time with friends; you did whatever you could but didn’t get the percentile you aimed for. You feel betrayed. There are mainly four types of CAT applicants - first are enthusiasts who give CAT just to enjoy the sheer joy of the three-hour exam! Then there are people with jobs who want a change in their job profile. Third are the people who are in their final year of graduation. Fourth comes to the people who have taken a year drop either after their graduation or from their job. Out of these four people, the fourth one is most dependable on the result. He has played a gamble; if he succeeds, well and good. However, if he fails, it becomes very difficult. You may feel that you don’t have options. You will feel shattered, but it’s not the time of remorse. It’s the time when you take the most important decision of your career: What should I do now that CAT is over and I’m not going to IIMs?
CSR is increasingly gaining importance in the corporate world. To inculcate the habit of community service, SCMHRD, a premier b-school, under Symbiosis International (Deemed University), is gearing up for its annual TE.A.CH drive. TE.A.CH stands for Teach A Child.
If you are reading this article, I am assuming that you have done well in CAT. If not, don’t be disheartened. Gear up, pull your socks up and strive towards your goal again.
Growing up, my twin and I did everything together - what started as shared birthdays, moved on to shared toys, friends, experiences, and 21 years later - we shared dreams too. Both of us were increasingly fascinated by the world of Marketing - for reasons different and similar. In 2015, we heard about MICA, a b-school that specialises in Marketing. The turning point for me came when I learned that the entrance exam has an entire section devoted to out of the box thinking - I never thought being excited about an exam was something that could actually happen to me. The blog posts on the curriculum at MICA, the videos that talked about the faculty, successful MICAn alums, and finally - getting to know more about the MICAn way of life further strengthened the belief that this is the college. I remember both of us walking out of our interview and Group Exercise process elated and hopeful.
“And so with the sunshine and the great bursts of leaves growing on the trees, just as things grow in fast movies, I had that familiar conviction that life was beginning over again with the summer.”
We’ve been asked this question numerous times and we thought, why don’t we save ourselves the effort and make an article out of it? So, is having a temporary campus a factor to keep in mind while choosing a B-school? Definitely. Is it among the most important factors though? We’ll let you decide that for yourself.
