Now that you are done with the big hurdle of entrance exams it is not the time to rest but to prepare for the next big thing which is GD and interview. The Interview and GD calls will come quick and fast and it is essential that you make the most out of every opportunity.
Calling the life in an IIM a roller coaster would be, at any given point in time, an understatement. Call up any of your acquaintances in IIM during the peak hours (which is usually post-midnight) and ask them about their life, they will have only one statement for you; I hate it but I love it. The sheer breadth and depth of the activities that one gets to perform here are on a superhuman scale. For instance, drawing upon my own experience, when I joined IIM Rohtak I learnt more accounting before my first ever finance class (thanks to our pre-reads) than what a usual commerce aspirant learns in his entire school years. This, while I was familiarising myself with Mr. Kotler with regression analysis and product life cycles poking me from both sides was no mean feat for me at that time. Yet, the magnanimity of an IIM truly becomes prominent when the horns of their annual fests are blown. That is when the already skewed sleep cycle of its students goes for a toss!
On March 24th, I will be a part of the graduating class of 2018 from XLRI Jamshedpur. I will leave this institute with a lot of memories and learnings. Although I will become a part of the well-known and respected XL Mafia, as I am just a couple of months from this date, feel there are several things I could have done differently.
I had my interview on 27th February in Mumbai in the post-lunch session. Firstly, we had written ability test, and the topic was “Is it the moral responsibility of doctors and hospitals to save the life of the patient as long as possible irrespective of the quality of life?”
The IIM Bill was passed by the Lok Sabha in July 2017 and the Rajya Sabha in December 2017. What took everyone by surprise was the quick presidential nod which generally takes anything between 2-6 months. Suddenly all students pursuing their PGDM from IIMs of the country went into a tizzy asking each other how is this going to affect us? This short article breaks up the bill into several small components and tries to solve the mystery for both PGP 2018 batch and further.
While the past 4 term breaks were spent holidaying or enjoying time away from our busy lives on campus, this last term break came with a plethora of opportunities. For some, especially ones with work experience, this was the time to secure their dream jobs in the lateral placement process. For others, there were 2 half-credit courses being offered which would commence and conclude both during the term break. The two courses namely FIRE and Experiential Learning were unique in their own capacities. Out of the two, I opted for the former.
