Why MBA? The most dreaded question in any MBA college interview. Different coaching institutes will offer you different advice. Some say be yourself and speak the truth, some will draft an answer for you and even how to present it. After hearing all these pieces of advice and giving a lot (LOT!!!) of interviews, I can give you a perspective, or at least a few pointers on how to approach this question.
Before arriving here the typical time-frame of my day would be from morning 10 am (my work timings were from 1 pm to 10 pm) and go on until 1 am the next morning. But after coming here the boundaries between the days, weeks and months have blurred and it has become a continuous event.
When Rajan said, “You’re so lucky to have bagged a PPO from Unilever”, I gently nodded my head in agreement, but deep down I knew that it wasn’t just luck. It was luck meeting the meticulous execution of an ardent marketer’s dream. A dream that I had envisioned close to a year back. A dream that fuelled me to do my best, a dream that made me out perform, a dream that came true. Today, as I see scores of freshmen ablaze with the fire to crack summers at the doyens of marketing world (HUL, ITC, P&G, RB, Nestle, Marico, among others) I feel the need of sharing my preparation journey with them. What follows is months of planning penned down into a brief set of words, here it goes:
Make a Mark & Leave a Mark - What it takes for an engineer to Standout
Not even one and a half months into my dream college, I was sitting in my room when my phone started buzzing. Ignoring it as regular spamming in the WhatsApp group, I continued doing my work. But when the buzzing continued for an approximately half hour, I picked up my phone to find that something serious had happened. One of my batch-mates had withdrawn her admission from college succumbing to the pressure of these initial months.
This is my fifth year at b-school (I am in the Integrated Programme at IIM Indore) so I would like to think that I have learnt many management lessons here.
The buzz of the alarm starts to muddle with my sleep. I languidly stretched my hand to grab my phone. Is it 8:20! I clearly remember the clock showing me 7:00 AM just 5 minutes back. Time dilation while sleeping is something even NASA may find tough to figure out. But what do I do now?
