I always had this fascination for fast-paced, ever-changing world of E-Commerce. I have seen my buying behavior changing over time. And, Snapdeal was my chance to experience one.
I did my summer internship with Marico in the Supply Chain function. The internship officially kicked off with me getting a mail from the HR regarding the project details and the location. My location was the corporate office in Mumbai for two complete months. Along with the above, I also received the details of a market visit that every intern in Marico is supposed to undergo before joining. The main objective of the market visit is to ensure that the intern is able to appreciate all the aspects of the Sales system. I had my market visit scheduled on the 15th and 16th of March along with fellow interns of other colleges.
Prior to B-School, I had worked in a top apparel firm. When I began my MBA journey, I was quite perplexed about the direction in which my career should steer. Determining what job function, role or company I should aspire to during my search for a summer internship seemed like a mammoth task. The only thing I was clear about was that I wanted an entirely different work experience compared to that of my previous work experience. This summer internship opportunity was indispensable in giving me exposure to an entirely new work area and also in helping me foresee my career path post B-School.
As I begin to pen down my experience as a summer intern in a startup, I realize my bag is full of nuggets of wisdom, which can be aptly classified as a crash course on entrepreneurship.
Internships often act as a foot in the door of employment market. The MBA internship is no different. Most of the MBA students will vouch for the fact that summer internship plays a significant role in their journey to the corporate world.
When you start to embrace situations with an unbiased mind and question the status quo, you realise that the knowledge you have gained is just a drop in the ocean. In a line, that is how I would describe my internship experience at Aditya Birla Group. I interned with Aditya Birla Group, Pulp & Fibre Business. The start was exceptional with a day which started by an overview by Chief Economist Mr. Ajit Ranade, from the human resource perspective having such a position in the organisation points towards visioning mentality. The day ended with a fun filled session by Mr. Akash Gautam, it was very the message came clearly that it is fine to make mistakes but it is important to try. I worked with Learning and Development team at ABG- Pulp & Fibre Business. I would say that I was able to touch on every facet of learning & development starting from content identification, development and delivery. The best part of my internship experience at ABG was my visit to the plants in Kharach, Gujrat and Nagda, Madhya Pradesh. The design of a technical competency framework required me to understand end to end processes and interview employees at all levels. The experience was exhilarating and I was only one who would be sad at 5 pm, when the plant siren brought it to a halt. The delicious food was soother but I would sleep with excitement for the next day, that I would meet a person who spent his entire lifetime in the very same place and does not have a flicker of regret. The internship was going, how it would go for any normal intern, you work hard for the glory letter at the end but the turning point came when I met with an accident, where I cheated death.
As I traveled to Pune from Sambalpur to start my internship at Hella India Automotive Pvt. Ltd. (HIA), I had no idea what to expect from the days which lay ahead. Being a fresher (not exactly having the experience of a desk job), I feared that my concept of ‘the office life’ would be far from reality. However, it was a necessary pill to be consumed, as an MBA course would be incomplete without getting a taste of life at work. On the other hand, my internship at Hella could end up being an enriching experience which could change my perspective on a lot of things. With these thoughts in mind, I set foot into my office.
