They say, ‘Life begins at the end of our comfort zones’. It would be safe to say that I too wanted to do something different which offers me much more than just an internship. Here is a small description of an experience about what I learnt (other than the marketing theories) from my summer internship in the United Kingdom.
Expectation and opportunity are the 2 words that would be occupying the mind of any intern. I was no different. Ad hoc packing just before the travel had made me carry my complete room in a suit case. I had carried everything I could see. And I liked my approach. Perhaps, I was ready for the internship. To learn whatever comes my way. That was a good metaphor! (Self-appreciation is sometimes very handy)
It wasn’t my first visit to Mumbai, but it was going to be my very first experience as a working professional in the commercial capital of India. The future is not generally known but, I was overwhelmed to know that I would be interning at Future Generali India Life Insurance Ltd, in the City of Dreams.
Consumers, Sales, Brands, Positioning, e-Commerce, Categories, Promotion... these are the words that usually come to our mind when we talk about S&M internships. My case was no different and I was expecting something similar as my Summer Project. But I was pleasantly surprised when I saw my project charter. It was 100 VE, London – the place where you wish to be if you are passionate about marketing. The most loved brands in the world are crafted there by the finest marketing talent in the world. This still wasn’t the biggest surprise, though!
A business suit, some sets of formal wear, books on investments, pending novels, music pod, and a trunk full of confidence and expectations – With these I boarded my Bengaluru bound flight from Visakhapatnam. A few of the most important weeks of my PGP course were set to commence.
When the city of my summer internship was confirmed to be Gurugram a.k.a Gurgaon, I was happy and sad at the same time. Let me explain why! When I'd bid farewell to Bangalore a year back, to join XIMB, I'd convinced myself that would return to the Garden City by next summer for my internship. Now since the city was Gurgaon, I wouldn't be able to go back home and hang out with old friends.
The 12th Episode features the Stars of ABG - Class of 2008, Vaibhav (IIM C), Abhishek (IIM L) and Uday (IIM B) who have grown by leaps and bounds, professionally and are key decision makers across various businesses at ABG now. In this episode, Vaibhav, Abhishek and Uday talk about their interactions with the interns, how they perceive them and the learning that they imbibe from these young minds.
This is the 11th Episode of the series with Amit Hooda from IIM Calcutta and Ojas Gohad from IIM Lucknow. Amit would be interning with SSOE in Dubai and Ojas would stationed in Mumbai at Aditya Birla Retail.
