For all the disappointed souls out there post the CAT exam, it’s time to let go of your frustrations and start focusing on XAT. Life always gives you second chances and XAT is that one chance available every year to all the b-school aspirants. Top b-schools like XLRI, SPJIMR, XIMB, IMT, TAPMI, GIM, etc. take candidates using XAT score. It is a 3.5 hours exam, scheduled to be held online on the 6th of January.

After having failed twice, convincingly, at all the management exams, I decided to make one last attempt. Surprisingly, in my first attempt at CAT in 2013, I scored a decent 96.2 percentile. I still don’t know how. I did not appear for the XAT in 2014 because I was sure I was going to fail miserably if I decided to take it. I was scared partly because of all the puffery around it as being the toughest management entrance exam.
Being the topper of my school, I always thought that I owe a responsibility to take the name of the school forward, to make my teachers proud and to serve as an inspiration to my juniors. After judging my abilities and areas of interest, I decided to go for MBA from a top b-school. But in today's competitive world it is easier said than done. This was my third CAT/XAT attempt but in terms of serious preparation, the count of attempts is two. I appeared for CAT/XAT for the first time in the final year of my graduation. After not getting the desired results, I joined Infosys thinking that having work experience will increase my chances of getting admission in a top b-school. Two years later I decided to prepare again when there were just 5-6 months left for CAT but I found it difficult to take out enough time in which I can feel refreshed. The primary reason behind that was I didn't like my job and I felt exhausted. This is when I thought that I have to make a choice whether I want to remain in a job which I hate and prepare half-heartedly for MBA exams or to take a risk and give my best shot. I chose the second option and started my preparation 4 months before CAT. Here are a few tips from my side:

With just 2 days remaining for XAT 2017 I would like to share some of the tactics which I used. Start from your strongest section. If you think you are good at the quantitative ability section, then start with it and try to solve maximum questions in an hour. The questions in the Quantitative section might be moderately tough as they are conceptual in nature. Do not panic if you see a tough question. Carry on with other questions rather than wasting time on a particular question if you are not able to solve it.
