My decision to do an MBA came as a shock to many. I have completed my masters in Organic Chemistry from a prestigious college in Mumbai. Everyone around me, my parents and friends thought that I would go for either Ph.D. or a job. But my plans were different. I wanted something different. I wanted my life to be challenging. When I came to Mumbai for my masters I understood and learned so many things and I realized that my approach towards life was somewhat narrow. I felt like I was restricting myself. I chose to do an MBA because I felt it would open me a wide range of opportunities.
Preparation for MBA entrance exams was somewhat difficult for me. I slogged very hard. Whenever I got time I used to study. I used to memorize new words during my commute through local trains. The preparation period has taught me a lot. That phase has tested me on various fronts. I was going through the dilemma as well about shifting my career path completely. But I kept faith in myself and in the process. I was delighted to see my CAT score and then I understood that I have achieved my short-term goal of doing an MBA from a premier institute. The scores of a few other entrance exams were also very good. It was really a challenge for me to get into an IIM and to fulfill my ambition. One thing I have learned from this experience is that ‘with focus and dedication I can achieve anything I want to achieve in my life and I can overcome any challenge coming in my way.’
