The place of ABG in my life
Hailing from a very simple upbringing with 8 years of childhood being in Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalaya, Narendrapur, I had no idea about what a brand of clothing is or the comfort as well as the social status it associates with. The first brand which was visible to me was Allen Solly which had a retail store in Barasat, my locality which was still getting acquainted with the city life style at that time. That was the first time I bought clothes from a branded store and the bond has never been broken.
I have been staying away from my home since I was 9 years old. Connectivity those days meant a single postcard letter from parents in a week which felt the touch of teardrops of both a mother and a son separated by distance, time and hostel life. People, who have spent those nights waiting in the dining hall with the warden announcing the names who received a letter that day, would know how much it means to connect with the people you love. Vodafone Idea have helped me connect with the persons I love since my high school days and that bond has never been broken.
I have a joint family with my parents, uncles and their families all staying under the same roof. My uncle is a dealer associated with Grasim and Ultratech cement. In all occasions and festivals he has been passed on some sort of bonus benefits which never failed to bring smile to our faces. Now coming to a prestigious institution like NITIE, Mumbai when I wear the suits made by Louis Philippe or Van Heusen, I ponder back to those days I had this association started with ABG, and I can associate with the bonds that have been created in my life, with and with the help of ABG. And I am sure these bonds can never be broken.
PART B – How I overcame the biggest challenge I faced
When life provides you with an opportunity, it always comes with some challenges that you need to overcome. I was 9 years old when I had to prepare for admission test of a school about which I had absolutely no idea. I had to compete with 30000 more and I converted; I got admitted to one of the best schools of West Bengal, RKMV, Narendrapur. It was the platform for success, “the opportunity of a lifetime”. Honestly, I did not understand the scale of the achievement which my parents did. So although heavy- hearted, they had to let go of their son to go stay in a residential school for the next 8 years. And a boy of 9 years had to go stay without his premier supports in his life. And he had no one to wake him up in the morning, instead a ringing bell pushed him out of his bed. He had to wash his own clothes, make his own bed, and manage all the difficult schedules and then, “study”. I had no idea what to do and my results reflected the same. I used to get near to 50% marks in all the exams and somehow managed to pass that year. Had I failed that year, the dream would have ended right there. When in standard 6, I started to understand the problem and started learning to manage myself. I was lucky to get fantastic friends at the right time who selflessly helped me through all the activities and also made me realise that if I put a bit more effort, I could do all that on my own. And in one monthly test in class 6, “the boy who somehow passed” suddenly scored highest marks in two subjects and second highest in maths. That was the moment of true success for me, I never felt happier in my life. After all what could be as big a challenge as to learning to manage yourself?
