My biggest achievement in my life is to transform myself from an IT guy to a freelancer, in education sector, working on an opportunity in a small niche. There were risks hanging by my side whether it would be taking a leap of faith from a secure future in a big multinational firm, Infosys, to becoming an individual that wanted to have an impact. I worked on an online education start-up that was creating content for preparations of various exams, moulding individuals to have an impact on the other strata of society.
The conditions were tough as there were already big giants like Unacademy present in the market. We tried to separate ourselves by building meaningful bonds with our students. From trying to direct them towards jobs or colleges to becoming a friend that would help them in their tough times. We did not project our students as customers but treated them as a younger brother looking towards their elder brother for help. The trust and integrity that we provided helped us to create a group of 30,000 students from all sections of society, working towards a better future.
When I look back the risk seemed like a “giant Goliath” tough to overcome but as I took more and more steps, focussing on the task like a young David, that made it clear that this was something I always aspired to achieve in my life. It connects with a saying by the late Steve Jobs, “You can’t connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future.”
