As I ponder over how Aditya Birla Group has made an impact on my life, I am in awe of how huge its presence is in every aspect of my life. The most awaited day of my week is Sunday, the day I get my doze of relaxation and also the day when we go grocery shopping for the week ahead. Being bachelors, saving money becomes the most important mantra of life. Further, living in Mumbai, cost-cutting only gets natural. Thankgod or rather thanks to ABG for the “More” stores. With their widest range of fresh fruits and vegetables, groceries, personal care, homecare etc this supermarket has easily become our Sunday shopping destination.
While living in Mumbai can get seemingly over-whelming, the city offers you breathtakingly beautiful spots that not only help in rejuvenating your senses but also add the element of hope, positivity and tranquility. One such marvels of Mumbai is the ‘Bandra-Worli Sea Link’. I used to wonder who contributed in creating this ‘Landmark of Strength’ but it was a no-brainer. This bridge in the Arabian Sea is a standing testimony of UltraTech Cement Limited’s vision to be ‘The Leader’ in Building solutions. This stunning spot inspires me to act as a ‘Bridge of Love and Hope’. It continues to teach me what life’s challenges have taught me over and over again, to be a balanced human being.
This is how Aditya Birla Group has been an omnipotent force all through my life and continues to make its presence felt as my life continues to evolve.
‘How you overcame challenges to achieve your ambitions in life so far’
If I were to describe how my life has been so far, I would use just one word “Challenging”.
From early childhood, living in a joint family, there was the challenge of ‘Peer Pressure’. Being born in Delhi, brought up in Mumbai, spending early years of my life in Bangalore to pursuing BTech from Nirma University, Ahmedabad, living in different cities brings with it a host of challenges. From being adaptable to different cultures, perceptions, beliefs to managing your emotional and mental state of being. Nowadays, people are aware of the importance of EQ over IQ. But when it comes to doing, being constantly aware of your own self, being socially aware, managing yourself and managing relationships involves hardwork, a lot of it but it is not impossible and is certainly an investment for life. Then comes your first job. The time each individual waits for his entire life. We have it all planned up in our heads of working in teams, attending meetings, getting along with our bosses but then it unfolds as nothing even close to being easy. When I started working as an IT Engineer at Tata Consultancy Services, Pune, I was dazzled by their infrastructure. Entering the office gates each day was the most special part of my day. My work experience has been challenging in terms of meeting ‘deadlines’. A job teaches you the true meaning of ‘attendance’. No more proxies or mass bunks. You need to be present each day. This also makes it more challenging. You are suddenly expected to behave as an adult. Pay your bills, cooking food, organizing your home, your room to even taking time out for yourself to go out with friends, it is certainly intimidating. But this very job brings with it a multitude of learnings, the most important being the ‘Art of Prioritizing’. Whether at the workplace to stay ahead of deadlines or at home, even while buying groceries, you learn to prioritize, to get the most important task done first. If this was not enough, I decided to pursue higher studies and opted for MBA. Unaware of what lay ahead of me, of how challenging was it really going to get for me emotionally, mentally, physiologically, I started my preparation. To wake up at 5 am each day, study till 11am which also involved preparing my breakfast, going to office from 2pm-11pm and then repeat this the next day and the next for an entire year was the most daunting experience I have had till now. Living alone, managing my own-self, being consistent at my work and studies was not just mentally and physically exhausting but also emotionally challenging.
All throughout my life, just like every other person out there, I have had my shares of ups and downs but just like the Bridge continues to stand tall, stand strong, I have continued fighting through battles, being my own warrior, protecting my heart from anything toxic yet remaining calm and composed, staying sensitive to people around me because you never know what battle the other person is fighting, at the same time, awarding myself for the little victories won on the way, being my own cheerleader and my own teacher. As life goes on, I am ready to face new challenges and grow even stronger, to learn what life has to offer but I hope I am able to act like a bridge every day of my life, balancing all odds, appreciate that both parties are required to make a bridge, to stand tall in adversity and most importantly being accepting of every human being that crosses me and helping them reach their destination at the other end of the bridge.
