Being at the heart of the city Bhubaneswar, XIMB is well known among the localities as “Jha-bier College”. The tall standing Academic building next to a Tech Park and Tech Mahindra Campus brings forth the close nature of an educational institution with the industry.
I also hail from this city and was fascinated with the news and happenings that happened on the campus. Being revered as one of the best B-School in the eastern region, every family gossip about this campus would be of high stature and celebration.
This high stature and fanfare celebration was something I experienced after I received an offer letter from the campus to be a part of their legacy. Upon entering the campus, every single pride and comfort came to a quick drop. The first task in the college was not registering for the college but rather it is the assignment named “The Real MBA”. Ever since that task every event, interaction, session, relationship etc. has been something new and something which I will hold onto for the rest of my life.
The Campus is a Walled Garden of Beauty with trees covering the whole campus and Hostels being very close to the Academic Building which is very important as it blurs how we stay in our campus. Our campus is a nocturnal by nature with all of the project discussion and assignment being done at night. To compensate for the same, we have night mess which satiates our hunger and tiredness.
Academics are rigorous but also interesting and fun at times. One of the recent experience was in a communication session class where we were asked to give an extempore in a minute or two on any random topic. We had a lot of fun with the awkwardness and funny moments but upon watching the recorded extempore, we realised our stupidity and took the humiliation in order to improve for better communication skills.
In all, a lot has happened in a short span of time and even I’m dumbfounded as to what awaits in the future. The mountain is treacherous but so is the wonderful experience that awaits in the next 2 years of my MBA education.
Which ABG Company would I like to work for and why?
One of the most challenging sectors now is the telecom sector with Idea Cellular holding onto the competition. A lot of growing changes in this sector requires skills to manage the business and also have technical competencies; which falls in my forte with my degree in the telecom and interest in technology but also my education in MBA now. The challenge will be immense and risky, but the end result will be rewarding and a lot of experience to gain.
