From more than 150 years, ABG has been producing world class products and has managed to touch the lives of billions of people around the globe. The group has a workforce of 120,000 and is active in a wide array of sectors including, metals, cement, viscose filament apparel, carbonblack, chemicals, fertilisers, financial services, telecom etc. The group finds its place in the fortune 500 companies of the world and is built on a strong foundation of stakeholder value creation
My first encounter with ABG group has to be the Hindalco Freshwrapp. A lot of things change over time but my school lunches were wrapped in the same Hindalco Freshwrapp for almost 15 years. Meanwhile the closest interaction that I have had with ABG is through Vodafone Idea. I have been to numerous places where other service providers die out but Vodafone Idea works with the same efficiency. ABG’s clothing brands like Van Heusen, Peter England, Louis Philippe are the most used brands in my wardrobe in this MBA phase. These are the go-to-brands for formal wear in the country. Last but not the least Ultra Tech Cement takes me back to my Mumbai trip. Going over the mammoth Bandra Worli Sea Link was an experience in itself. Around 0.1 million metric cube of Ultra Tech cement went into the construction of this engineering marvel.
My prime encounter with the name ‘Birla’ was while filling the BITSAT form in 2012. Little did I know that I would spend the next 4 years (which turned out to be the best 4 years) of my life at BITS Pilani, one of the highest rated engineering colleges in the country. Though BITS is a part of Birla education Trust which is not related to ABG in any way, but they share the same values of Integrity and commitment. I was lucky to spend the formative years of my life in the company of some of the best minds in the country. This molded me into an individual who can dream big and has the ability to put the necessary efforts to achieve those dreams.
The next few months after graduation were a bit tough in the corporate world as I was no more protected by the walls of BITS. But the BITSian values played a huge part in helping me sail through this time. Consequently, I became an important part of my team in the high stress environment of a consulting firm. So for the most part of my life, Aditya Birla Group has been there in some form or the other and I believe it will play an even bigger role in the future.
At the end, I would like to conclude by saying that Aditya Birla Group’s foundation lies in its values and these values are something the world needs today.
