I started watching Friends when I was in first year of college. And like majority of my everyday decisions, this one too was based on the heavy influence of my peers. This however, turned out to be one of the rare good decisions. Friends has been etched in my memory and so has the character named Rachel Green. She was from an affluent family background unlike me. But she had a determination I could connect to and she knew exactly what she wanted. In the subsequent seasons, Rachel had started working for “Ralph Lauren”. As her career progressed, I was deeply engrossed with the way the fashion clothing industry worked. I researched about the Indian operations of Ralph Lauren. I was surprised to see how many different kinds of industries Aditya Birla has ventured into. Taking my interest further in the clothing industry, I started working with my mother on a clothing venture. I helped my mother through the initial phase and design and now she is running a full-fledged business of her own. Aditya Birla has played a pivotal role in my life. I have come to do my MBA. It has been four years since my mother is independently running her venture and I am proud that some insights from me has helped her embark on an entrepreneurial journey.

How you overcame challenges to achieve your ambitions in life so far’

Coming from humble beginnings, I believe that every hardship is meant to push you towards something greater. My parents always strive to provide us the best of education. We were always taught this is what we have. Me and my two siblings also did our best to help our parents in what they wanted for us. After completing my 12th, I couldn’t afford to study in a private college. I wanted to pursue bachelors in technology. I applied to a lot of colleges asking for scholarships. I had lost hope and was almost sure that either I would have to drop a year or would have to settle for another graduation degree. I spent sleepless nights typing and sending in applications to colleges. My parents had a meager income and both my siblings were too pursuing their education and could not support my education. I persevered and on the 31st day at 6 am, I received a notification. I closed my eyes and hoped that I get a scholarship. Tears of joy came rolling down my eyes, as one of the universities had agreed to give me a 100% scholarship on my tuition fees on the basis of my AIEEE rank.  I gave the news to my family, and they were so glad that I have been able to achieve my dream as well as theirs.
