In my late teens I got detected with insulin based PCOS which is basically a condition in which girls miss or get irregular menstrual cycles. It’s a heredity condition which prevails in the daughters of diabetic mothers, especially if the mother had diabetes during her pregnancy, which was the case with me too. As a result of this condition I started gaining a lot of weight and acne marks had started appearing on my face which was certainly a worst nightmare for me. Being a teenager, I was immature and always wanted to keep up with society’s standards of beauty. As a result of which I had started losing my confidence to the extent that I avoided stepping out of the house.

I started consulting a doctor and tried to regularize my menstrual cycle for a year with the help of prescribed medicines. It was after a year that I met my family doctor in a social event when she told me that I was being overly dependent on the medicines which would be harmful for my body in a long run. She also helped me understand how harmful these medicines could be for one’s kidneys if taken for a very long period of time. That day was the turning point of it all.

I started keeping a strict check on my diet. I even joined a gym and religiously followed my workout schedule. I had to say a big NO to any dairy products because consuming them would again increase my PCOS level. I worked really hard to get inclined towards this healthier approach of life. Cutting down a lot of favorite food, saying no to outings just to stay back and work out is something I did for a year and half till I finally got over my PCOS. It took a lot of discipline and will to follow this schedule. Shifting to this healthy way of life made me feel a lot positive about myself. I really feel inspired from people who are fighting PCOS and one of the inspiration is a Bollwood actress Sara Ali Khan. In this process I also evolved a lot as a human being and have started appreciating things more than I have ever had.  I started seeing beauty of the person not in the way he or she looks but in the way he or she is. As they say “It’s all there in the mind”, fighting your problems or sitting back not doing anything is up to you and your will. It’s all about your will and your belief.
