Finding yourself amidst all the chaos!

Life has been unfair to us all, so much so that we have started questioning everything from our choices to our very existence. However, moments of self-doubt often lead to successful self-introspection which help us regain confidence in ourselves.

As a short and skinny child, I was made to feel self-conscious since a really young age. This furthered my introvert nature and made me more reclusive. I faced a lot of problems due to this: in making friends, talking to new people. Everything around me used to make me question myself. As life moved on, I started gaining weight and people teased me for that well. That’s when I realized that one could probably never meet society’s standards whether tall or short, fat or slim!

Besides my doubts regarding my self-image being a problem for me, I also used to feel stupid when I could not solve those basic mathematics problems which my friends could do easily, in Standard Five. I used to think of myself as a liability to my parents as well as many others, with them being stuck with a stupid kid.

However, my confidence regarding my abilities soon regained when my father took over the charge of my studies. That’s when I realized that it was only that my concepts were not clear and that I was not stupid.

This made me gain some confidence in myself and I started developing a sense of belief. My self-confidence started growing even more when I became the School Topper after my Standard 12 board exams. The girl who used to fear Mathematics pursued Economics Honors with Mathematics and Statistics as ancillary subjects.

I realized that all the time when I was putting in self-pity before could be used more productively as well. I enrolled myself in many extra-curricular activities, and kept finding new talents in me. I never knew I could sing until I did an impromptu performance of two songs at a restaurant. I never knew I could debate until I challenged myself to get over my fear of public speaking. I never knew I could write poetry until I started believing in my capabilities. Sometimes, it so happens that we are so engrossed in trying to shut the negatives of life, that we fail to stop for a minute and be grateful for the positives that we have been blessed with, whether it is our parents, our mentors or our friends as well.

Coming to recent times, I convinced my parents to let me move and today I am a proud student of NMIMS, Mumbai. I feel that I have faced all my internal challenges and grown from that. One thing I know for sure now is that whatever challenges life might throw at me, I can face them without doubting myself. Self-doubt always occurs during critical situations and keeping calm during those times develops our mental resilience which we need to have to face this VUCA world.

Why Aditya Birla Group is big in my life.

As I was thinking about ABG’s impact on my life prior to writing the article for the 'Aditya Birla Group Woo Me Competition', I thought of my alma-mater: M.P. Birla Foundation Higher Secondary School. I realized how some of the most significant years of my life was on account of ABG. My school for 14 years: which shaped me as an individual, nurtured my value system and developed the drive within me to keep facing challenges as and when they come.

The ABG Group holds a special place in my heart, not only because of my school, but also for my mother. My mother hails from a town named after the Birlas: Birlapur. If this is about being BIG IN LIFE, then ABG is that one big thing in my life that has been a constant, right from my mother to my school, to my clothing and so much more.

It is intriguing how such a successful conglomerate started in a humble backdrop, at the now well-known Birla Haveli in Pilani, Rajasthan, and is now operating in over 35 countries. The Group’s visionary leaders have made the company global and omnipresent, so much so that we are almost always using its products and/or services.

The ABG group is the world number one manufacturer of carbon black used in ink and tyres. So behind almost every word that we write on paper, there is ABG! With its operating the largest fashion brand in India, Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail, it impacts every Indian so much that they buy 3 garments every second on an average. With Pantaloons and brands like Louis Philippe and Allen Solly becoming household names among Indians, ABG facilitates premium quality products among all its consumers.

With multiple operations in multiple sectors in multiple countires, ABG has been adding value to our lives so much so that it is indispensable for us now.
