- Why Aditya Birla Group is Big in My Life?

3 years ago, I was in my house sitting alone and looking at the under construction building from the window. I asked my father about the building and he said that Pantaloons Store is coming up just 50 metres away from our house. I cannot explain the excitement and happiness which I felt at that moment. All the fashion brands starting from Louis Phillipe, Allen Solly, Van Heusen, Peter England coming under one roof with just a throw away from my home.

Aditya Birla Group is big in my life because what it does is for the Greater Good. Selling products ranging from insurance services to cement to chemicals to fashion brands to telecom services, it binds the people from different sectors and help them eventually grow.

- How Have I Made an Impact?

A report published in “The LANCET” says that poor and unhygienic diets were responsible for 10.9 million deaths, or 22 per cent of all deaths among adults. Additionally, 255 million disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) — which equal the sum of life years lost and years lived with disability — were because of poor diet. These risks affect people regardless of age, sex and socio-demographic development status. Along with this, the researchers found that daily intake of all unhealthy foods and nutrients exceeded the optimal level globally. They said that Dietary policies focusing on promoting healthy eating can have a more beneficial effect than policies advocating against unhealthy foods.

Reading the above lines made me realize the importance of fresh and hygienic food which made me wonder what should be done to keep foods fresh. I came across Freshwrapp, a product of Hindalco Company, a subsidiary of Aditya Birla Group in a nearby retail store. After using it for quite a few months, I realized its importance in the urban and especially in the rural world.

During my graduation life, I worked in an NGO named Bihari More Education Project (BMEP) - A volunteers driven independent initiative to nurture the underprivileged children. There were 60 kids from lower rural class. Looking at the unhygienic condition made me wonder what if they continue eating it this way. After a week, I with 5 other members of BMEP started a Hygienic campaign laying stress on the food, clothing, cleanliness etc. We made the kids and their family realized the importance of fresh food and how it is crucial for staying away from diseases. And the first thing we did was we demonstrated the process of using Freshwrapp and then distributed it among 50 families in the nearby area. Initially they were finding it cumbersome to use but slowing they became used to it. The odd here was to maintain the hygienic condition of the kids for the longer period of time. This challenge we overcame by repeatedly making them aware about the diseases that could be spread among their family members, friends, elders etc. It took time but they started using Freshwrapp, which we provided, on a regular basis. The campaign moved from 1 village to another and after a year it turned from a luxury to a necessity product among the rural people.

This was my small contribution towards the society by using the Aditya Birla product – Freshwrapp, a product which saved thousands of kids from diseases and will continue doing it in the nearby future.
