Living in India, it is impossible to have not come across the Aditya Birla Group. The fortune 500 conglomerate has its roots spread across the globe for over seven decades. The multi-billion-dollar company has directly or indirectly influenced almost every citizen of this nation.

The one division of Aditya Birla group that has always had my attention is Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail Limited (ABFRL). Pantaloons is a personal favourite of mine. The showroom in Phoenix Mall, Chennai has been a life saver. Albeit, my most favourite memory affiliated with Aditya Birla Group has to be my first day of college life. I was a suburban kid from a moderate school stepping into the ring with a lot of top people from various reputed educational institutions. Needless to say, my confidence wasn’t at its very best. I had self-doubts and was second guessing every move. I did not know by then if I could ever compete with their standards. But when I walked into the induction program in my Peter England formal wear, I could feel that I was not less by any means. It offered me a sense of pride. I felt the confidence in me rising. This paved the way for the journey thereafter. Ever since, I have always had Peter England beside me for all important occasions. Call it serendipity, sentiment or superstition but I have always had a Peter England by my side for placements, corporate inductions, client visits or even as I take my first step into IIT Kharagpur to start my MBA.

After my first year at LTI, I got an opportunity to be a part of a challenging project. The project was for two resources spanning for a period of 3 months. There were many critical tasks that demanded 24*7 attention. The stakes were high as it involved various high-level stakeholders. The first month was very hard and it would require to work even during odd hours. I began spiraling around the heavy work load. But then I realized what I’ve often heard from the man whom I have admired since ages.

“Youngsters are so result-oriented nowadays that we actually forget about the process. The process is more important than the results and if you take care of the process, you will get the results.”

-Mahendra Singh Dhoni

I then started working out on a plan to break down all the tasks into more simpler divisions and started working on them based on priority. This worked miracles. Our team was able to derive the solutions better. Soon after, we deployed many fixes and made the environment stable. After the successful delivery of this project, I was called up to Mumbai to transfer the knowledge about the same to the clients. This was a huge opportunity considering the fact that on-site chances aren’t that common among freshers. It was my first time in the Mumbai mainland. The city was buzzing with energy while Hindi was no better than gibberish to my ears. I managed to impress the clients during my stay there. Once I returned to Chennai, I got to know that the project was extended. This time, I was the only resource billed from LTI and was given complete ownership of the components. I developed a good relationship with my clients thereafter which also helped grab many other important projects for my company. After resigning, I had got several appreciations and positive feed backs from my clients so much that they even went on to ask me to join them. All these events made me realize that the most important thing in life is to try your best irrespective of the odds.
