My strength is in my words and expressing it in sentences. Alas, my weakness is in public speaking. I remember as a kid I used to make several excuses to miss those classes that involved public speaking. Should my mother force me to go, I’d simply tell my teachers I am unprepared, which certainly wasn’t the case. Even when I was being awarded ACE awarded by my previous company for excellent services, I was nervous and shaking the day before even though my speech was ready and memorised. My mother had enough of it and took me to the nearest Pantaloon store to shop for my formal wear that was supposed to wear the other day. She got me a fine crisp Allen Solly shirt and said “Your words should be as gentle as this fabric. Like this shirt is an easy fit, your words should also be easy to understand.”
We next went to the Louis Phillipe aisle for my trousers. She picked a smart black ankle fit and said “Like these represent the modern woman, smart and formal yet trendy, act the part. You belong to this generation and so does your audience.”
The Van Heusen section provided my blazers. Yet again my mother said “This blazer emit confidence on the wearer because she knows herself. And you do”
Last but not the least she gave me a formal handkerchief and said “this kerchief hides in a pocket but does the most important work of drying sweaty hands. Be grounded beta. You’ll do well.” And armed in this formal clothing and my mother’s words I went on the stage the next day, received my award and thanked my people. Nothing can stop me now.
