Go for it
I screwed up my 10th and 12th for IIT JEE. Got 80 in 10th. Didn't get through JEE. Got below 75 in 12th. Settled for an average engineering college under Pune University. Couldn't manage a 7 CGPA there also. Today when I sit in a room with full of IIT and NIT grads after all those failures, I believe if an average guy like me can reach here, anyone can do if you overcome challenges you are facing. Currently, I am at an IIM. The biggest problem I faced was Low Esteem.
My first period of success was in Second year of my college , I was coordinator of the college cultural festival - MELANGE. We had decided to go big this time, reaching out to unexplored cities and colleges. New Director had joined the college a few months back and he did not agree to raise funds for the cultural festival to support our expansion plan. We were left out with limited funds from college and to add to trouble, one of our sponsors backed out just a month before the event.
In such a situation with no options left, I suggested an innovative cost cutting method of marketing the whole event which would reduce the budget by 20-25%. I took support of the Students’ Council of my college and my idea was to promote the opening of Kumar Pacific Mall, Pune (which was scheduled to be inaugurated during that month). It had to be done by performing various dance, UV Act and fashion shows for them in the mall and in return they guaranteed us that they would promote our cultural fest through banners in their Mall and printing ads in their daily Newspaper Dainik Bhaskar (the most popular newspaper of central India). Convincing them was easy as ours is one of the most renowned college in the state. We also restructured the various logistics activities by consolidating them for better optimization of resources. We were able to cut the cost of whole event by up to 20%. This enabled us to carry on with our expansion plan seamlessly. We, as a team came together to overcome the initial difficulties and achieved our target. The event was a huge success for our college. This success made me the coordinator of event from the just average guy in college.
