Those were the days when I was working in a software company and wanted to switch to a better role and company. I was desperately looking for a job switch. I applied in several organizations over a period of 2 months, but in vain. Every company would schedule a telephonic interview but never got a call from any of the companies.

I had a couple of phones and using 3 SIMs of different carriers. I used to give my primary phone number in of the applications. One fine day I received a mail from one of the companies stating “We have tried calling you several times, but your phone was not reachable all the time. Please provide an alternate number or call us at the below given number to schedule an interview.” Finally, I realized it’s not my profile or the luck that is bad, but it’s the network coverage of my primary number’s carrier that is bad.

Since then I started using IDEA sim as my primary mobile number and I understood the mistake I was doing for several years. The area in which I stayed has very poor connectivity of other carriers. With Idea I never missed a call or there were no call drops. I gave a couple of interviews while travelling without any hassle thanks to the great network coverage of IDEA cellular. I got a couple of great offers and I happily switched my job. Thanks to IDEA or I should say big thanks to ABG for giving me a life changing moment.

And with the merger of IDEA and VODAFONE I expect the coalition to reach greater heights and cater the market for greater good.

Before coming to IIM Raipur, I was working as a software engineer. 2 months before the CAT exam was very hectic as the preparation was to be made rigorous and there was a project release. So, I was unable to cope up with the pressure of both office work and preparation, mock tests.

That is when I read an article about the 3Ss of MBA life. Studies, Social life and Sleep. In MBA it is very difficult to have all 3 of them together. It is only possible to get 2 of the 3. So, if you were to choose Sleep and Studies, you must sacrifice Social life. And so is for other combinations.

I related this article to my life back then. I had only 3 priorities at that point. Studies, Office work and Sleep. I can’t have all 3 of them together. I had to choose my priorities. And it was not a tough job to choose what I want. I made my mind that I will sleep 3 hours less from that day.

However, the implementation was not as easy. It took me a week to manage my sleep cycle and make my body get used to the reduced number of sleep hours. I was pretty sure this is how it is going to be for next few years, and I had to start sacrificing sleep at some point of time. I decided it is at that juncture and I should sleep less. Finally, when the CAT results came I was very happy as I scored a good percentile and eventually converted IIM Raipur. The 3Ss article helped me choose my preferences and even today I have my priorities straight and manage with 4 hours of sleep.
