I had no idea of the kind of influence Aditya Birla Group had on my life till I joined GIM. Most
of the products I use are somehow related to ABG. Be it the shirt I purchased before coming to
Goa or the products used by Datre Food Centre to pack my midnight snack.
ABG has spread its wings into many sectors such as FMCG, Metals, textile industry etc. They
have slowly but surely become one of the largest conglomerates in the country.
Lets start of with the basic necessities, clothing. ABG runs on of the biggest fashion retail stores,
Pantaloons. The kind of fashion variety ranging from kids to adults makes it a place for families
to shop for everyone. Moreover it reduces the effort to move from one shop to another since you
can fulfil all your fashion needs at one place.
Next biggest necessity is connectivity. When we speak of mobile connectivity their are certain
big names which pop into our minds. One of those names happen to be a part of ABG. Vodafone
is a cellular service which is used by every member of my family. It is considered as one of the
best networks in Kolkata. Their services and quick customer help at the vodafone stores makes
them one of the best service providers in India.
ABG helps keep our foods warm even after 4-5 hours. The magic of aluminium foils which are
made by Hindalco Industries which is a subsidiary of Aditya Birla Group. It is one of the most
used kitchen items in several homes across the country, and this is mainly because of how
reliable it has been as a product.
My life has seen a lot of challenges. Be it coping with bad grades in college, or being debarred
from an entire semester for low attendance. Each of these incidents have made me the person I
am today. They have helped make and remake me as a person.
There have been several instances in school where my teachers could not believe that I had the
capability of doing something great in the field of sports. The sense of pride which a person
derives when they prove someone wrong is a feeling very close to euphoria. These however as
small incidences which happen in everyone's life, one way or another. Someone may prove
themselves to their parents or to their peers.
No challenge has been bigger for me than getting into a premier B-School in India. I knew that
the competition level is really high and the kind of preparation needed, will push me to my
limits. The factor of chance also had to be taken into consideration. Fast forward to May, I had
not converted any of the colleges whose interviews I gave other than Symbiosis School of Sports
Sciences. My mom was not really keen on sending me for an MBA in Sports management. I had
been waitlisted in GIM and I had given up hopes of converting it. Luckily, I managed to convert
GIM at the end of May, which meant gave a sense of relief to my mother and me. Even though
GIM may have not reached the levels of an IIM A or IIM C, it is still one of the most reputed
colleges for a PGDM in India.
