Aditya Birla group is a 44.3 billion USD Indian conglomerate operating in other countries as well. It is headquartered in Mumbai, India. It operates is businesses in 35 countries employing more than 120000 people worldwide. In the year 1857, Seth Shiv Narayan Birla founded the firm. The group is active in 14 different industry sectors. It is well known for its global and national leadership in several of its businesses. Almost every product that is required for a normal person is developed by the group: from staple fibres, metals which is essential to the industries to the high quality and rustproof Ultra tech cement, to the luxurious branded apparels which is essential to the public. Chemicals, fertilizers, which are essential for farming activities, telecom, BPO, financial services, which are important for the ongoing businesses and what not. I am an ardent lover of its fashion brands: VanHeusen, Pantaloons, Skult, tedBaker, Hackett, Peter England etc. These brands come under Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail Limited (ABFRL) company. Due to its products enhancing the customer experience, It has around 22 million loyalty members as of March 2018. Moreover, the company has shown a stellar performance financially in the past years. Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail has posted a strong performance in the fourth quarter in the year 2019 despite tough market conditions. Annual Sales has risen by 9%. Profit After Tax has grown by 79. This shows how much the company’s products appeal to the people. My family has been continuously investing in mutual funds. One of them is Aditya Birla Sun Life Front line Equity Fund, Regular Plan( Growth). This particular Mutual Fund is very close to our hearts as it has been constantly helping us with respect to the returns it generates. It is a Large Cap fund It comes from the fund house named Aditya Birla Sun Life Mutual Fund. It has a low expense ratio of 1.79% which is very low as compared to its peers. This fund has generated 256% return on the amount invested a decade back. Not once we have suffered loss with this Fund. Now whenever a stranger asks about the name of fund where they should invest to, we tell them to go with this fund with our eyes closed. Almost all the buildings in our colony have been made up using Ultratech Cement. Nobody has ever experience leakage related issues since the year 2002 during which it was built. We feel safe inside our houses from earthquakes.
How I overcame a challenge to achieve my ambition?
I worked on a project in my Bachelor where we had to make a documentary of sorts, on any topic we wanted. It was mainly on which the film was going to be made. My team picked the project of exploring food spending pattern on the food delivery aggregator apps through 10 years. We thought it would be pretty good to notice and identify the crazy things people might have done for a better meal over the years. Although the project turned out very well, and I was also very satisfied with the end result we planned. But, I was not that satisfied with the lack of communication happening in the group. Because of the huge amount of workload I had in that semester, I had decided not to be the group leader and take the role as a communicator and Person of Contact with the faculty. I do often like taking on the leadership role, but once in a while, I like to sit back and make sure to not forget being a supportive follower. Regardless, some of the group members did not turn in their research at the deadline. Moreover, our leader did not follow up with them on it. After a week had passed since the deadline, I had to jump in and take the charge. First thing I did was to map out a timeline for our team so we could complete our work on time as I was able to get some extension from the faculty. We got everything done with time to spare. But most of our work was done during the busiest week of the semester for all the members. I wished that the team communications should have been more thorough earlier on in the project. The lesson I learned was to always ensure that I a consistently active participant even when I am not the leader. In this way, I am still able to maximize my relationship and interaction with the group. I am also able to work in order to improve my skills as well as those of the people working with me.
