It’s almost a dream come true when an Engineer with no Finance background gets a Summer Internship opportunity in a company like JP Morgan Chase, which is a pioneer in Banking and Financial Services. Having worked in Banking and Financial Services Project in my previous company - EY, I joined MBA in IFMR GSB with a dream of working for a Bank and an Internship opportunity in JP Morgan Chase helped me to fulfill it. In this article, I will take you through my Interview and Internship experiences.
Interview Experience: First round was a resume-based shortlist followed by a Group discussion round. The topic of my GD was “American-series vs Indian Web-Series”. The key to such a round is being a good listener, put forward the points which can add value to the discussion. As our topic is something, which interests everyone, it was very engaging and the Panel members themselves got involved in the discussion along with us. The next two rounds were Technical and HR interviews. They asked me questions from my work-ex - my roles and responsibilities, Financial Know-hows, and situational based questions.
Internship Experience: The Summer Internship experience was one of the most enriching experiences of my Professional Career. With the ongoing Pandemic, we were always apprehensive whether our Internship would ever start on time but JPMC started their Internship Program on time. I worked in Global Finance & Business Management - Corporate and Investment Banking domain as a Legal Entity controller. I got the opportunity to work on two Projects- US Regulatory Reporting and German Statistical Reporting. My day-to-day responsibilities included learning different regulatory measures adopted in the United States and Europe and at the end, we were given a case study to work on a European Bank, which gave us an opportunity to incorporate all our learnings in the first year of the PG Program. The organizational structure in JPMC has a flat hierarchy, wherein we could approach our mentors at any point in time for help. My mentors and Managers were very supportive. They cleared all my slightest of doubts clearly with a lot of patience.
Apart from our daily Project activities, we had various meetings with Senior Leaders, fun sessions from HR helped us know the other Interns, who were working with us. We never felt we were disconnected because of Virtual Internship, as they kept us connected all the time.
The most cherishable moment for me was the final review of the project. I was very apprehensive about how it would turn out but eventually, all the Leaders seemed impressed with my work on Two Projects. We had a healthy discussion about the scope of the Projects and key takeaways. It was really exhilarating to see how open the leaders were in receiving my ideas while deliberating the points where there was a difference of opinions. I am looking forward to going back and work with this great organization.
