Why Aditya Birla Group Is Big in Your Life?
I found my love in a More store. I met my girlfriend at a More supermarket on a Sunday in 2012. She was working in the electronics section and I was a customer. We ended up talking while she was on the clock for about two more hours. Long story short, we found out my grandmother’s house was her grandmother’s old house, our birthdays are three days apart, and the first five digits of our cell phone numbers are the same. We found all this out while talking for months. Then she ended up meeting with my parents. We have been official since November of 2012 and we plan to get married soon. Talk about instant attraction and having weird connections
How Have You Made an Impact?
My family had moved from Pakistan to India in dire circumstances during the partition. My grandparents did not have much money, so my parents were sent to the cheapest schools possible - and without any inspiration or motivation to study. Also, our community did not, back then, encourage too much education for girls. Girls are expected to be married off at 18 years of age and bear children.
In class 10, my father wanted me to study Commerce. I, on the other hand, loved Science. I wanted to be a doctor someday (though I never made it due to bad grades). But my parents were not convinced.
What I did: I bet my father that if I scored more than 80% I would take science. If I scored < 80% in Class 10, I would move to Commerce and do whatever he wanted. This was a risk which would determine and change my life.
Not only am I an engineer, I am an inspiration to all the girls in my family. My brothers & cousins' children see me as a role-model, growing up with the belief that nothing is impossible and hard-work pays off. I have a niece preparing to be an optometrist, another one preparing to be a doctor and another one preparing to be an engineer.
When a squirrel jumps to move forward, it has to let go of the tree trunk for a few seconds - even if it is high above the ground.
I also helped a few kids with their college applications last year and am helping another right now. On a volunteer basis, of course. Why? Because these kids are the kind of kids whose parents can’t afford private tutors, college tour bundles, and admission coaches. In short, these kids are like me.
I think I had an impact, but they’re smart kids; I’m sure they would’ve gone to great colleges with or without my help.
