The world is evolving rapidly, and the changes that come with it aren’t easy for some. Especially now, amidst this coronavirus crisis, we are forced to adapt to a whole new way of functioning, which might persist even after the crisis ends. How do HR Managers ensure that their employees don’t feel like their jobs are in danger, or that the organization is exploiting them? How can organizations structure themselves and their work environments to maximize productivity? Find out in this video. This is part 1 of Prof. Ankur Jain’s interview, in our series, InsideIIM Professor of the Year 2020.

Prof. Ankur Jain has done his MBA from FMS Delhi, and his Ph.D. in Organizational Behaviour Studies from IIM Bangalore. During his Ph.D., he researched automation, leadership development and OBHR. In this video, he gives us his insights into the world of automation, how HR managers can help employees cope with the anxiety revolving around automation taking away their jobs, and how human operators play a key role in developing automation applications. Further, he talks of how HRM is a very important part of any organization, and how much more they are needed in a time of crisis like the current one.

Lastly, he speaks about the work from home situation that a lot of us are dealing with. He says that the boundaries between work life and home life have begun to get fuzzy. This is causing internal conflict in the minds of the employees. However, it is okay to have fuzzy boundaries. With the world changing, we need to adapt. Be it technology, be it environment, we have to constantly keep adapting.

Prof. Jain has been teaching at IIM Rohtak for a year now, and despite the short stint, his students love his unique method of teaching. You can read about some of the student responses here.
