Why Aditya Birla Group is big in my life?
Aditya Birla Group is one of the first names that comes to my mind when I think of Indian Conglomerates that have made it large in the entire world. ABG spans a total of 34 countries and employs 1,20,000 employees. This group hasn’t just made it large in the world, but has touched many lives including mine.
Prior to joining Management Development Institute, Gurgaon to pursue MBA, I worked at Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd. For 29 months. I was under the project of construction of metro station in Kolkata. In our project the cement was of UltraTech Cement Ltd. UltraTech Cement Ltd. is the largest manufacturer of grey cement, Ready Mix Concrete (RMC) and white cement in India. It is also one of the leading cement producers globally. UltraTech as a brand embodies 'strength', 'reliability' and 'innovation'. I also attended seminar conducted by ABG’s UltraTech Cement Ltd in Kolkata only where we were introduced to all the latest innovations and offerings by UltraTech Cement Ltd. After that we were taught about how their products create or bring changes in our daily life.
During my stay at Kolkata, I used to go to shopping at Pantaloons as it was very close to my home and all the major brands are easily available there and also you can always find new arrivals in their stores. The Aditya Birla Group also indirectly impacts my life by taking measures to improve our society and country and making it a better place for all of us to live. Its CSR initiatives in Healthcare, Education, Livelihood, Infrastructure and its endeavour in making model villages is indeed making our society better.
How Have I Made An Impact
In the final year of my graduation, I got a job as a Data analyst in Mu Sigma and role of a Sales Manager in an early stage start-up - Xeno. After contemplating about both the options, I decided to take up the role in start-up over the reputed Mu Sigma, which has been the most important decision I’ve made till date. My varying experience in different extracurricular activities and my interest to work on the ground and understand sales, led me to take this decision.
Working in a start-up gave me a holistic view of a business, while also focusing on my role as a Sales Manager. In a dynamic start-up environment, I learnt how to contribute to a sustainable business model that could earn revenue, and also setting up the basic sales process. Moreover, I also learnt about how to interact with a client in a professional environment.
While taking a decision about it, I spoke to my seniors at Mu Sigma and similar companies about the role and its scope, I should have also done the same in the case of start-up. Although I had keen interest in working there, my expectations about the work environment were not clear, and it would have helped if I had a better understanding of how the start-ups function.
