As I pounced my way into my morning class the construction site in the college caught my eye as it added a picturesque hue of yellow in this lush green campus. Those humongous amounts of UltraTech cement bags just added so much color to that mundane site. Five minutes into the class a notification of MyIdea app pops up reminding me to pay my bill. As the day passed by, I came to realize there was a driving force behind not just mine but pretty much every one’s survival on this campus. It was the huge products range by Aditya Birla Group touching our lives day in day out. Not having been convinced I challenged my roommate to eliminate the brand from her life for a day, believe me she had the roughest of them all. Be it the isolation from her family and friends for not being able to call them, her formal cloths from Van Heusen that she bought so fondly, those Allen Solly footwear, and most importantly having to spend the entire day outdoors because she didn’t think through the cement part (evil laughter). We soon accepted that our campus breaths ABG not just uses it.
Retracing my line of thought to childhood I recalled how my mother would take me to the kids section in pantaloons showroom and I would grab hundreds of clothes as I liked them all, every single time! There was no coming back without having at least four shopping bags in my teeny tiny little hands. Not only did it make me proud but also gave me satisfaction that I was wise enough to pick my own clothes even as a kid. Those attractive advertisements featuring Kangana Ranaut made me try those Liva Kurtis as I grew up. Not just mine even my mom’s cupboard is still full of those. You can just not get enough of this scientific marvel that feels so good on your skin. Those fun train journeys as a child in trains whose copper is fulfilled by Birla Copper. The Smartphone that I can just not live without uses Hindalco Aluminum. The brands are deeply knit into our day to day lives and our fond memories.
Watching the success story of such a big conglomerate in India despite of a tough market resounded of how one can make an impact. However behind every success story lies the tale of having overcome the odds. My story of facing challenges started when I was at school. I always dreaded people who littered the city and felt the need to bring about a change for the same. I thought what’s the best place to begin than people around me. I used to travel in a school bus for two hours a day and found it as a bright time to bring about the change. The challenge was to bring about a change in the mindset of not only kids but people elder than I was. Days of convincing, motivating, elaborating how the trash affected the city went off to pa fruitfully. Seeing the enthusiasm a few of my classmates joined in and started doing role plays in classes and the whole mission of not letting children litter during the bus journeys became a massive success. I had a sense of accomplishment along with inner satisfaction because I knew I did my bit for a cause in the right direction.
I could go on and on but looks like Forever21 has a Sunday sale for me which I can just not miss. So Tata! Catch you later.
