Aditya Birla Group is known to all as third largest conglomerate to all of you. We all know that group has various business like metals, cement, apparel, financial services etc. We all are also familiar with the vision of company to be a premium global conglomerate with a focus on each of the business. But amazed by the figures and growth of the group we do not give due attention or talk seldom about is mission of company. The mission of company being “To deliver superior value to our customers, shareholders, employees and society at Large”. Having stated the mission of group I’ll be going to discuss how group’s mission has impacted my life.
I was going through end semester exams of my fifth semester of engineering, as usual plan was to pass the exam by burning the midnight oil. But this time destiny had some other plans, I suffered huge lost my loved once in my family. I still gave the exam while going through the trauma. After exam got over and the holiday started, real struggle started I started feeling too low, stopped meeting friends or even going out of home. Seeing my situation one of my friend suggested me to go for shopping. I went for it despite feeling otherwise and this was one of the best things that had helped me coming out of it.
One thing that I will remember distinctly was the huge option that were their in forms of brands like Louis Phillippe, Allen Solly, Peter England, Van Heusen. What happened that day was how mesmerised I was while deciding what to buy. And yeah, I never used to go for shopping let alone going out without anyone suggesting what to get. I finally ended up buying four LP t-shirts which still make me remember that day. For the first time in one month I was out not feeling low.
“When going gets tough try and go out for shopping” this is what helped me and I believe help in such low time. Keeping aside value for money apparels that Aditya Birla Group gives what we tend to ignore is the range of variety that group has opened. Value is also giving someone a little good time and we all feel good in good clothing specially.
As mentioned earlier I’m an engineer and unlike most of us I joined a start-up. My reasoning being given that we have flat hierarchy I would be able to work across domain and will have better understanding of how business works. Also as start-up was IIT Mandi recognised that gives it more credibility and I was planning to go for MBA. I would be having learnings that will help me during my MBA studies. As start-up initially had funding as well, so things look pretty good.
After I joined things were going good but this didn’t last much. As soon as one of the founders quitted without giving much prior notice we found ourselves in high waters. Situation got more bad as the cash in hand started to be vanished. Now started the battle of survival. At that time just passed out from engineering college where life used to be so chill that my group was called proxy group. I find it really hard to adjust. I also had to give cat as well the same year. Still quitting and letting my colleagues hang in dry out there is never my ideology. I believed that we are making an impact making society better place for people around us and those for whom we were working.
The routine got change instead of binge watching tv series or movies, we all were working for day in and day out. I still remember that crucial week when we would be working through out the day and into the night. As sun would be rising we used to go to sleep. In that state of despair when people started to doubt whether we will be able to make it or not this is what I used to tell them-
“Apne junoon ka natija jaroor nikalega isi syah samandar se noor nikalega”
At the end of all this moil and toil we got the result exactly what I used to tell everyone. Indeed we turn out to be hugely successful. One lesson that I learnt would be “Perseverance always pays” and second one would be “Keep on doing hard work in life it always gives good result”.
