I still remember, exactly two decades back, in the mid-afternoon my uncle entered the house with a strange device made out of plastic. He said, “you can call anyone with this”, I asked him that’s good at least it’s not that big as a landline phone. But then I asked him to connect it to the wire and make a call. My uncle laughed and told me, it doesn’t need a wire, you can use it right now, without connecting it to any wire. I thought he is joking, excited with something new in the house, I wanted to use that device so desperately and my uncle is joking at this time instead of doing what I am saying, this fact made me sad. Uncle sensed it and grinned, he then dialed the phone number of our house’s landline phone, I ran to pick it up and I heard a familiar voice of my uncle. I was shocked in disbelief. Then my uncle explained me that this device is known as mobile phone and you can make calls without connection with any wire. I asked him how it works then, after all its just a plastic box!

He then opened the back side of the phone and took out a chip like thing and some “IDEA” written over it. He told me this known as a sim-card and it is manufactured by company called Idea. He told me that he brought this for my father to help him in his business. That device along with the sim-card stayed with us for 12 long years. After that lot of mobile phones were bought, but that combination of Motorola phone and Idea sim card will be the most special to me!
