IIM SIRMAUR
WHAT AN IDEA SIR JI
Yes it was all started in 1857 about 162 years ago by Seth Shiv Narayan Birla. Since then there was no looking back and it now covers almost every market not only in India, but around the world right from cement to branded apparels. The strategy behind this is interesting. It is as if competing among your own companies separated only by brand name might lead to a good result eventually. You can take an example of any item like branded apparels. Opening five outlets with rather interesting names such Peter England, Van Heusen, Louis Philippe, Allen Solly and Pantaloons all might sound like some foreign brands for clothing, but that is Aditya Birla Group for you. It maybe hard to believe but at some point or another, you have interacted with this industrial giant. This may have been when you were making a phone call through your SIM (Idea-Vodafone Network) or working at a construction site (Ultratech Cement). It is the third largest private sector company in India giving employment to more than 120000 people worldwide and inspiring many of us to come forward. I personally think Aditya Birla Group has satisfied the population of India. I think it feels it is a matter of pride when someone prefers Indian brand or any Indian accessories over other foreign brands. The famous advertisement “What an Idea sir Ji” of Idea network was seriously a stroke of genius which resonated to every corner of the country. Such strategies developed by the ABGL workforce is a delight to experience and learn from.
It is interesting to write about my ambitions and the challenges faced. I do not know where to begin but let me give it a try.
Let’s first make the definition of ambition clear i.e., a strong desire to do or achieve something. The biggest achievement till date is getting admitted to IIM Sirmaur. I have always tried to complete my desire of doing anything that I want to, be it in the field of sports or in the cultural field. This was a challenge as, during my formative years, playing for more than an hour is like committing a crime (at least in my family). I had an interest in dance at my schooling age but that was the big headache for my parents as they always wondered why I’m doing this and what this may lead into my future. Thus, the challenge was to hide my ambition from them and continue performing for self satisfaction without letting them know. So this is my way to overcome my challenges as making the parents happy is always a challenge. So I try not to tell them any hard things going on with me. I face the tough situations by myself and it is the most important thing to face the situation and not run away from it. All this was many years ago but now the real challenge begins as I have joined IIM Sirmaur and this is the first task on first day to write. And truth be told? I actually really enjoyed it!
