Fashion and Lifestyle is another business domain where Aditya Birla group finds its deep penetration. Pantaloons, one of the largest fashion retail stores in our country, is a place which I find myself deeply associated with; given its large variety of choices and affordable prices. Its in-house fashion brands like Peter England, Ralph Lauren, Van Heusen, and Allen Solly offers wide varieties of clothing; whether it be formal wear or social wear like jeans and T-shirts. Hailing from South Kolkata, the easy availability of Pantaloons outlets near my house has added to the nostalgia factor, given my frequent visits since childhood.
As a subscriber of Vodafone-Idea Services limited, I have long used its mobile internet facilities and connectivity to connect with my near and dear ones whenever in need. Its connectivity to even the most remote places of our country has helped me make calls even while I am on my travels.
Combining its business strategies with CSR initiatives across rural parts of this country is what makes Aditya Birla Group stand out in the corporate world. As a leader across various business domains, these are just some of the many different ways Aditya Birla Group has helped make my life convenient.
How I overcame my challenges to achieve my ambitions in life?
Growing up, I was always an introvert, who failed to speak in front of a crowd. Such were my fears, that I often turned down opportunities to speak even if the consequences were something which I deeply cared about. During my undergraduate career, I had the urge to learn more about business administration and pursuing an MBA from a top tier institute became a goal of mine.
Seeking a career in the corporate world without having the courage to speak in front of people is not an ideal situation to be in. Thus, I decided to face my fears. I decided to join core organizing committees of our college fests, which provided me with the opportunity to not only speak in front of fellow batchmates but also gave me the chance to work on my stage fears.
Like any challenging situation, the initial days were not easy. I started off with speaking in front of small groups and then gradually moved on to stage events. With every small event, I was working on my stage fears. I also decided to enroll myself for a course in the German language, which provided me with further opportunities to improve on my communication skills.
It was only in my seventh semester that I had finally improved drastically and was confident enough to speak in uncomfortable situations. But, the most critical event was yet to arrive; where I had to face a panel of professors before I could make my way into a top B-school. As with everyone, the fear of failure is what complicated the situation even more.
With my ultimate goal in front of me, I worked for days; from giving speeches in front of friends to working on my self-confidence, I made every single attempt to improve on my fears. And my attempts ultimately provided results, when I got an admit from IIM Raipur. It is only through challenges that I realized I can work on my skills, and this is how this experience of mine helped me achieve my goals.
