Part A
The most important time in my life was when I had to give my first ever interview. It was going to be the test of all my years of hard work till date. It was going to make or break my dream of getting into a B-school. It was the interview for getting into NMIMS, Mumbai. I was pretty nervous given the fact that it was literally my first ever interview for anything. I began preparing for it day in and day out, read all that I possibly could within the remaining days. What I didn’t realize until two days before the interview day was that I didn’t own a suit. What was I going to wear for the D-Day? Panic started kicking in when I thought I had no time left to get it stitched. I did not want to buy a readymade suit because I had heard they don’t fit well and I wanted to look my best. That was when a friend of mine suggested me to at least try Van Heusen suits once and then decide. Reluctantly I went to a Van Heusen store nearby and tried on a pair of trousers and a blazer. I was surprised to find the exact color match and size. The look and feel was smart too. I purchased it. On the day of the interview, I wore the suit and immediately felt ready to conquer the world. And the conquering I did! My interview went really well and I landed a seat in NMIMS, Mumbai. If it weren’t for Van Heusen and the confidence that it gave me, I wouldn’t be in a premiere B-school today living my dream. Thank you Aditya Birla Group.
Part B
I am a fitness enthusiast and therefore a Black Belt in Karate. I have played many tournaments nationally and internationally in Karate. But there came a time when I was not satisfied enough with only Karate. I started training for Kick-boxing as well. That was also the time when the movie Mary Kom was released which further motivated me to follow my passion and keep training hard. After a few months, I found out that there was a Boxing tournament organized by the District Sports Organisation Mumbai. I hadn’t trained for Boxing ever in my life before that and Boxing is a very different ball game altogether. It requires much more stamina, power and very different techniques than what I had learnt by then. But there was no hesitation in my mind whether I wanted to go for the match or not. There was no one to accompany me and cheer me. Boxers compulsorily need to bring their coaches to the match because it is a risky sport. My Karate coach wasn’t available that day and had advised me not to participate in the tournament. Nonetheless I went for the match and convinced another player’s coach to stand for me as a coach when they announce my fight. I did not have the whole kit which includes a jersey, shorts, hand wraps, gloves, head guard and mouth guard. I borrowed it all from random players who were also there to compete. My opponent was a practicing boxer since years. To be honest I was intimidated by her at first. But as soon as the match began, I forgot everything in my mind and concentrated only on playing. I don’t know whether my opponent was bad or was it my sheer will power to keep going in the game, but I won that match. I won Gold and am still proud of that victory that day.
