Why Aditya Birla Group Is Big In My Life

I have shifted 3 cities in the past two years, and every new place I’ve been to, the sale alert messages from my favorite store – Pantaloons have never stopped to excite me. I have developed a long relationship with the brand now, not just because of the smiling guards at the store who greet me every time I enter, or the survey machines at the billing counters where I happily click on big smiling faces, but because of the one stop solution that the brand has provided me over the years. All my first salary gifts for family and friends have come from here, and I don’t think I could ever get too old to shop at Pantaloons. Moreover, given the big online shopping freak that I am, Abof has been on my bookmarks bar ever since its launch. Not once has the service, quality, variety and affordability of these platforms failed to impress me.

The Aditya Birla Memorial hospital has been like a confidante during the most challenging years of my life – health-wise, and today I am a proud holder of the Aditya Birla Activ Health Mediclaim policy. Not to forget, I stay connected with my family over the Idea Vodafone network, and my first job savings lay safe and intact with the Aditya Birla Sun Life mutual funds. Such has been my association with the Aditya Birla Group.

From being a small cotton trading company, to eventually marking its presence in over 35 countries spread across all continents of the world, the Aditya Birla Group carries with it over 160 years of experience and expertise. The group’s presence across sectors like textiles, carbon black, aluminium, cement, telecom and finances, has impacted the lives of millions across the world, making it a globally respected name. Also, the group’s fashion brands like Van Heusen, Louis Philippe, People and Peter England have given new meaning to the concept of “Power Dressing” and smart casuals.

I remember watching an interview of Mr. Kumar Mangalam Birla some time back, wherein he mentioned his aspirations to enter into the water business, which provoked me to find out about the efforts made by the company in the field of recycling cans, integrated recycling facilities, bio refineries, gas-based fertilizers and wind mill projects in India. The group’s focus on making India grow in the manufacturing sector has given a boost to the entire economy in more ways than one, and today, whenever one thinks of cement, textile, edible oil, petrochemicals, aluminium, carbon and other materials forming the backbone of the manufacturing industries, one is bound to think of the Aditya Birla Group. I have always been in awe of the company’s willingness to change with time, whilst keeping the core values alive.

How Have I Made An Impact

We always draw inspiration from great leaders, as they help us keep the passion in ourselves alive. We often try to adopt their mannerisms, and learn from their leading styles. Such was an opportunity that I got during my graduation, when I had to lead a team of 25 girls, to design and build a car from scratch, and race it in a 5-day long event in difficult terrains. We had our share of challenges, the biggest one - to prove ourselves in an otherwise male dominated world, and we managed to sail through with flying colors. The idea of cutting and welding iron rods with my own hands gave me an adrenaline rush, and the experience of captaincy made me realize the value of teamwork. I learnt how to push my limits and keep other’s interests intersect above my own.

My team and I dealt with parental pressure, academic pressure, and most importantly, the pressure of the stereotype that girls belong in the kitchen, and are not capable of doing certain things. We traveled to remote parts of Delhi, and dealt with multiple things at a time. We learnt to be polite and rude, as and when the situations demanded. Together, we made a difference in each other’s lives and strived day and night to achieve what we had aimed for. We had set out on a mission, and together, we made our #MissionPossible!
