Challenges come our way at every point in life and so I will start my story from childhood. After staying for several years in Sonbhadra (a small town in Uttar Pradesh), when we shifted to Allahabad, I was admitted to a convent school which was over 100 years old. Though I was in an English Medium school before, but this was something else. I got admitted in third standard and it was very difficult to cope with the level of students and especially that of the use of English language. That was the first major challenge that I faced in my life. But after a year of hard work I was able to catch up and secure good marks.
Over the years, I faced two major challenges when once my mother fell seriously ill and second when my grandmother suffered from brain haemorrhage. Both these incidents shook me and made me a more responsible person and gave me the strength to work things on my own.
As years passed challenges kept coming my way but I would like to mention a significant challenge that I faced at my workplace in December 2016, when the higher management decided to cut down on the resources from the project. My planning team was reduced from 3 numbers of employees to just one. I had to shoulder all the responsibilities for planning works of super structure viaduct works of Metro construction in Hyderabad. I was initially not able to cope with work pressure and was having thoughts about giving up on my job.
I came to the conclusion that I could not do all the work by myself and needed a helping hand.I discussed the same with my superiors and they decided to hire a temporary contractual office helper. He was non-technical temporary staff and I had to put him extra 2-3 hours of work in order to train him. Within few months, he was able to take up several of my responsibilities which made it easier for me to concentrate on my bigger responsibilities.
These few months taught me two important lessons. First, was not to give up and keep looking for solutions to the problem. Second, trust- trusting self, trusting your team and trusting subordinates.
Why Aditya Birla Group is big in my life?
The first time I heard about Aditya Birla Group was way back in 1995, when I was a four year old kid. It’s a story of the time when we used to live in Sonbhadra, a small town in Uttar Pradesh. The Renusagar unit of Hindalco- Hindustan Aluminium Corporation was just 40kms from our place. My father used to work as a revenue officer in the city, and knew a few officials in Hindalco. We once visited the plant and I was awestruck by the magnanimity of the entire plant, that was and still one of the largest Aluminium producers in India.
Till date, Aditya Birla Group has always had a top of my mind recall. Growing up we have used several products in our life coming from the Aditya Birla Group. I distinctly remember my first cellular network connection being that of Idea, which I used for several years. But then these are my first’s first which I remember and because of which Aditya Birla is the first name, that got registered in my mind as a big conglomerate since childhood.
But, has Aditya Birla touched us only in these ways? The answer is a big ‘No’. I have purchased clothes from Planet Fashion, and I am an avid lover of the product portfolio of Peter England. When it comes to shopping formal to semi-formal clothes, I always choose Peter England.
So far Aditya Birla group has touched us through offline channels, but with Abof it forays into e-commerce, Aditya Birla is everywhere. I could proudly say that Aditya Birla has become an integral part of our life and somewhere or the other we are interacting with some creation by the Aditya Birla Group.
Also, let’s not for get the fact how Ultratech cement is one of the largest cement manufacturers in India and is contributing to nation building in a major way. As a civil engineer, and while working on the construction site I vividly remember that Ultratech cement was the preferred choice and that’s why it is called the Engineer’s Choice.
