‘Pursue excellence, success will automatically follow’ is a personal goal that I have set for myself. And it is this desire for excellence that drives me in all spheres of life. However, the journey of pursuing excellence is never without hardships and challenges are thrown at your way to test your resilience.
One such challenge I encountered was when I was facing difficulty in preparing for management entrance exams while pursuing CA as a career. Challenging as it was, it became much more difficult when my family wasn't in support of my decision. I first thought of preparing for management entrance exams three years into my CA preparation, which made my preparation for CA finals collide with my preparation for management entrance exams. To add to that, my father, who was a CA national level ranker in his time, wanted me to be one too and never supported my decision of wanting to do a management degree. However, I knew I wanted to gain managerial knowledge along with the technical skills CA provided, and thus, started preparing discreetly. Yet, as time went on, I did not want to continue keeping things to myself and thus told them so. My father was very upset with me, and didn't speak to me for a while, which made it hard to concentrate on studies for a while. Nonetheless, I persevered, and ultimately, seeing my dedication for both, he saw how much I wanted to do it and thus agreed to it, giving me his blessings. This taught me an important lesson of perseverance and staying strong when the going gets tough.
Why Aditya Birla is big in my life?
‘If living by our values means, perhaps growing at a pace slower than we would otherwise have liked, so be it’.
- Mr. Kumar Managalam Birla.
In today’s era of capitalism and greed, not many people would agree with this though. It is indeed very difficult to grow as successful business being sustainable at the same time.
Throughout my CA journey, the importance of ethical values has been infused into me academically as well as practically. And no person has imbibed these values as sincerely as Mr. K. M. Birla (a CA himself), my biggest role model, has. The emphasis on values and responsible business practises is what has taken ABG to the epitome of success that it has reached today.
A US $44 billion corporation, ABG is active in 14 industrial verticals and has achieved global and national leadership in many of these businesses. Anchored by a strong workforce belonging to 42 nationalities and having wings across 34 countries employing more than 1 lakh people, ABG is India’s first truest global conglomerate.
Right from dressing us up (Pantaloons, Allen Solly, Van Heusen) to making our homes and our infrastructure (Ultratech Cement), to solving our financial needs (Aditya Birla Capital), it would not be an overstatement to say that ABG has played an important role in each of the lives of people of our nation.
From producing Carbon for the tires of half of the world’s cars, to be the second largest telecom operator in the world and to be the world’s largest can recycler, very few global corporations possess business leadership in as diverse business verticals like ABG.
No organisation makes our nation proud time and time again as much as ABG does.
