My passion of working in the manufacturing sector began during my under-graduation when I was doing my industrial internship at Thejo Engineering Limited, during my third year. It was during this internship that I understood the complexity of manufacturing processes and the requirement of a cross functional team of several engineers and managers at various levels to successfully manufacture even essential industrial commodities.
I got the opportunity to work in the manufacturing sector after my under-graduation, as a Graduate Trainee of Tata Steel Processing and Distribution Limited. During my on-the-job training project which focussed on Improving On Time In Full (OTIF) deliveries, I got the opportunity to directly interact with customers. It had helped me to learn a cross-functional approach which is required to meet customer requirements like OTIF and delivery compliance. Along with the Supply Chain experience, I got to learn about plant operations during my training period, by working as a shift in-charge. This role provided me the opportunity to understand and solve the basic problems encountered in day to day operations of a manufacturing plant. Upon the successful completion of training period, I was given the role of Quality Assurance & Product Application Group (QA & PAG). This role was offered to me on the basis of my customer-facing experience in Supply Chain Management along with the operations experience acquired during my role as a shift in-charge. This role helped me in understanding customer quality requirements and Quality Management Systems. While working in the role of QA & PAG, I successfully completed the Internal Auditor certification course on IATF 16949. I also achieved significant reduction in number of quality complaints as QA in-charge for Distribution account. As a part of my PAG role, I had successfully developed 5 new customers during the financial year FY2018-19.
Thus, I had achieved my goal of working in the manufacturing sector and also across several important functions of a manufacturing company. I look forward to carry on my experience after my Post Graduate Diploma in Management at TAPMI, and gain more knowledge and experience in the manufacturing sector.
