I’ve come to the realization that it’s not every day we stumble upon incidents where a brand creates memories associated with it. Aditya Birla Group created a deep impact in my life and in retrospect I shared an emotion with my father when I was little. I grew up in a small town in Assam and we didn’t have any notions about what a brand is. Our town had very few branded stores to talk about but it had one clothing store in particular where every people wanted to shop at. The clothing store was of Peter England owned by Aditya Birla Group. Our family wasn’t well off and we had a hard time to make ends meet. The store was located on my way to school and everyday my father used to drop me off to school with his bicycle passing the store. I always wondered about visiting the store because the store logo made quite an impression on me. I then asked my father about visiting the store and he replied with a proud smile on his face that it was me who should take him when I get my first job. The words of my father lingered on my mind ever since and I was determined to fulfill his wish. After graduating from my undergraduate college, I got my first job and during Diwali I had the opportunity to fly back home. I then reminded my father of his words and drove with him to the Peter England store and bought him a pair of formal shirt and pant. I can still remember the pride in his eyes when he wore the shirt.

“Every adversity brings new experiences and new lessons” is a quote that I’ve believed with all my heart. I’ve faced many difficulties in my life but the main hurdle that I’ve come across is living far from my parents. Coming from a very humble background, I didn’t have much expectations about my future. My parents weren’t highly educated but they wanted me to live a highly successful life. So, they provided me with all the necessary foundations such as sending me to an English medium school even if it was below their means. I was adamant of not leaving them for my higher studies, and thus got into an engineering college at my home state. But since all good things come to an end, it was time to live far from my parents after I got into Faculty of Management Studies, Delhi. It was a difficult for me to come to terms with the decision but my mother rightly said that we all go through difficult times in our life but if we survive through it, there’s nothing that can stop us from shining. I realized there are certain trade-offs and in order to reach our ambitions we need to face the trade-off regardless of the situation we are in.
