My Dreamcatcher

Every person has a dream to someday build a house which he or she can call their own. I and my family also had a similar dream. The dream came true in 2018 in a small town at the foothills of Darjeeling called ‘Siliguri’. I still remember the morning when my father looked very excited and when I asked him what had happened, he told that he was going to the cement dealer to buy the first few bags of cement and negotiate the price. I asked him which cement was he thinking of buying and he told that he had asked around and many had suggested ‘Ultra tech Cement’.

When you get something after a lot of struggle, you tend to be extra careful with every decision related to it. My father put a lot of trust in the cement that he bought for our house. He continuously told us that he does not want to compromise on the quality. Siliguri is an earthquake-prone city, hence the quality of the cement is very important.

The construction began and I could see the tears in my father’s eyes when the first floor was being paved. The outer structure of the building was ready within 6 months, by June 2018 to be precise. In October 2018, when the first-floor interiors were getting ready, there was an earthquake in Siliguri. It was an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.5. Many buildings in the city had been damaged due to the earthquake. The moment the earthquake hit us; the first thought was a prayer that nothing should happen to our building. Our home was safe and strong standing there without a scratch. That day ‘Ultra tech cement’ left a deep impact not only on me but on my entire family.
