Walking the path of the much bigger journey called LIFE, this is a story about my travel towards a premier B-school. This journey belongs to me and all those who contributed to it in said and unsaid ways. Staying conceptually and theoretically prepared for B-school interviews is just one brick of the wall. Equally important is to carry the right amount of confidence to deliver this knowledge and this confidence partly comes from the way you present yourself aesthetically. With little time to get the right formal suit for me, Aditya Birla Group (ABG) came to my succour. It offered me the right fit with the just right price and transformed me from a hesitant girl to the lady in a Black suit. The crucial thing is to lay the first stone, to take the first step and with my Van Heusen formal suit the first step towards my much awaited feat was very well laid. Leaving my home (Himachal Pradesh) and my people behind I appeared for all the B-school interviews with my one black suit by ABG. Wearing the confidence I successfully cleared 95% of them. Working in 5,000 villages and reaching out to over 7.5 million people ABG has brought a difference to many lives. Being my partner in my journey, ABG has touched my life too in a profound way. With my experience I can proudly say that ABG is making a difference indeed.
Part B: How you overcame challenges to achieve your ambitions in life so far
After completing my master’s in engineering I worked in the capacity of a teacher with a state government university located in Himachal Pradesh. When I joined the college, the food technology department was newly created there and I was to teach the first batch of Master’s in Science (Food Technology) program. I was given the responsibility of teaching both theory and practical subjects to the students. In the absence of a laboratory it was difficult to delieve the practical courses. Also, with only a single professor at the department’s helm, it was difficult to run the programs. I took up the challenge of establishing a laboratory as soon as possible so that the practical courses could be taught the right way. Initially, the response I got from the authorities was not very positive regarding this. But I decided not to be daunted and do justice to the students so that they are provided with at least the basic facilities to complete their master’s projects. I actively shouldered the responsibility with the professor for establishing the department and within a semester successfully established a laboratory inside college premises. The seemingly impossible was made possible with determination and dedicated efforts. In addition to this, I successfully organized workshops for self-help groups to make contributions to the extension services of the university. The most important learning through this experience is that when your determination is strong and based upon true intentions, everything begins to move in that direction. It is this determination, attitude and the effort to win, which is the most important aspect of the entire journey.
