My Key to Success with Aditya Birla Group

Role of Aditya Birla Group in my life:

I had suddenly got through my dream institution, i.e. GIM for my PGDM. I say ‘suddenly’ because I wasn’t in a position to get through, but I did. I had to arrange all my belongings in three days and I had to buy a suit for myself. I went to the Van Huesen store near my place in Kolkata and got the exact size of suit for myself.  That was amazing for me because I didn’t ever get to experience to buy a suit in a timeline before, and when I did I was surprised to find a perfect fit for me, extremely unexpectedly.

A couple of years back in Delhi, I had to buy a jet black formal trouser for an event the next day. I scouted several stores in Connaught Place but none could match my requirements, either they were not solid or they were not the right shade. Finally I found it at a Peter England store, the exact shade that I was looking for and of course they had one for my size.

I rarely shop for clothes but whenever I do, I go to the nearby Pantaloons store where more often than not I find what I require. However in some scenarios, if I am forced to move out of my one-store-for-all-needs kind of comfort zone I inadvertently end up in the store of a brand which is under the Aditya Birla Group conglomerate. Such is the impact of ABG in clothing and fashion that almost all major brands are part of their conglomerate.

The Vodafone network I use in my mobile is under the ABG umbrella. Statistically, the tires of every second car in the world are made from Birla Carbon. Directly or indirectly, everything I consume in my daily life comes from their large basket of products. Sometimes I might not even be aware of them. For example, who knows if the food I eat is grown with the help of Indo Gulf Fertilizers.

Hence, it would be an impossible task to quantify how much Aditya Birla Group is a part of my life, as well as the lives of countless people around the country (and even the world).

Challenges overcame for success in life

I was born in a middle class family where earning money when I finished my bare minimum formal education was essential and expected from me. I have been a person who has been quite laid back and have thought that my own creative skills (I’ve had a passion in photography) will overshadow my lack of industrial skills in engineering. But I soon realized that a engineering graduate from Kolkata will need IT skills to get a proper job. So I persevered a lot, and started training myself in Python. Soon I got to work on core development teams in two Start-Ups which not only boosted my technical skills but I got to interact directly with clients from the United States. This, I feel, have let me gain my confidence and have inspired me to take over the management course in such a prestigious institution. I feel that from a point in which I was laid back in my life for good, to a point where I am have aspired and got through Goa Institute of Management, I have come a long way to to overcome my difficulties and embrace my success.
