Why Aditya Birla Group is big in your life?
Honestly speaking I wasn’t introduced to the brand ABG – “Aditya Birla Group” specifically until I was in my late years of schooling. But I took a notice of several brands under ABG Group, with prominent ones being Ultra tech cement & Idea Cellular for their TV Commercials and numerous fashion brands which were present in every major shopping zone in my hometown, Hyderabad.
The fashion brands falling under the umbrella of Aditya Birla Group are some of my favorites. I became brand loyalist of Van Heusen after continuously noticing my Father, during my childhood days, who has a good fashion sense and was a regular consumer of Van Heusen shirts. The Shirts that he wore communicated a subtle style statement that made feel, “I will also own this party wear shirt soon!”. Needless to say several Indian men for that matter will share similar feeling and can agree that Van Heusen, Peter England, Louis Phillipe are widely present at any corner of a city which tells that the distribution of ABG Fashion is top notch. Another instance I can recall is how significant was the choice of cement which was used for renovating our house back in 2010, which was Ultratech. Even though the price of Ultra tech is on the higher side, the engineer suggested us, “If you do not want to compromise on quality, go for Ultra Tech or ACC.”
These are some of my brand recall moments of ABG Brands. I can’t vouch how big they are, but I can say ABG brands in my life have been special.
How you overcame challenges to achieve your ambitions in life so far?
A: My consistency over the years to work every single day in achieving smaller targets, no matter what the situation is, has been the key to my success, so far.
I was an ambitious student in my early years of schooling. Be it Mathematics or Science, cricket or chess, I was the favorite student of all my teachers who taught my class and also the most vibrant player in any match. I was acing every examination and stood 1st in class continuously like a record of my own until 6th standard, when due to change my school and I had to opt for Telugu as my 1st language subject. It was manageable initially, since I had the momentum and push from my earlier track record. But as the year progressed it became difficult for me, as language cannot be taught but only learnt, and being oblivious to high level Telugu language – Prose and Grammar – during my previous years of schooling took a massive toll at my confidence as I wasn’t able to cope up. My rank went down from 1st to 3rd to 10th. I convinced myself that learning Telugu is tough and just focused on other subjects, where I did exceptionally well. The fire inside my belly to stand out from the rest I.e. stand 1st in class was slowly extinguishing.
As time passed on, 10th class board exams came up. It was time for me to focus more on studies than anything else. I thought to myself, “I will do a little 30 min extra preparation daily only for Telugu language – subject.” I took that seriously and did it consistently for 8 months, with my motive being to do decently well in that particularly subject. Little did I know that just because of inculcating this “extra time” habit, my affinity to do well in other subjects increased significantly. Gradually the fire in my belly got ignited and I did exceptionally well to my surprise in the board exams. I was my City Topper, which remains my most cherished achievements in my life even today after 9 years.
Ever since then, I believe that this principle of consistently working towards my goals no matter what the situation is, has helped me get admission into top engineering and MBA institutes (IIT Madras and IIM Raipur respectively) in the country and get closer to my ambition of becoming CEO of a Fortune 500 Company.
