In the depth of winter, I finally learned that within me there lay an invincible summer-Albert Camus. I had winters when it came to socializing with people and putting forth my viewpoints in front of them. I had always been an introvert and could not express my perspective in any situation. Due to this I faced a lot of problems since I would not get platforms to channelize and showcase my core strengths and talents. When I was in school, I would only confine myself to studies and could not participate much in extra-curricular activities as I was shy of public speaking and would get jitters whenever I was on the stage. People would not heed me whenever I had to participate in skits and class activities. In my under-graduation too I had to face challenges because of my introvert nature. This creates problems when one has to work in teams and express and convey ideas and communicate freely. I knew I had to come out my inhibitions. I had always wanted to do MBA in HR and it is very important for an HR to be good and assertive at communication as he is the bridge between the employer and the employees. HRs must have good presentation skills and should be able to put forward their points in the presentations. I had to prepare for B-school interviews and GDs to be able to get selected in a reputed institute. For this, I firstly stopped labeling myself an introvert. The more I confined myself into the ‘introvert’ bubble, the more I would not be able to come out of my inhibitions. When I joined guitar classes, I could relate my common interests with people with whom I could share thoughts and interests. This was the first step towards me getting out of my comfort zone. I would focus on my active listening skills and pushed myself to network with people as this was all that is required in MBA and professional life. Building inter-personal relationships was one of the areas I started off to be good at communication. I built upon my balanced and composed attitude soft-skills which greatly helped me socialize with people. When I started working in an IT firm, I took the responsibility to represent my team in the client meetings. This not only helped me build my soft-skills but also helped me being an ambivert. Applying Dale Carnegie’s methods of how to win friends in real life (which says when we listen carefully to what others are saying, and genuinely show interest in them, people will find us to be sociable and interesting as well), I would gel with people around me well. With all this, I gained self-confidence and could perform well in GD-PI process and got selected in XAHR. This is how I could come out of my shell and achieve my ambition of being in a reputed B-school.
